Island of the Blue Dolphins Shipwreck
You are a researcher who was shipwrecked on the San Nicholas island. Try to survive as you learn about why it was abandoned.
Dear Researcher,
Thanks again for heading out the San Nicholas Island to research the inhabitants. The place has been difficult to get to because of....well reasons. Don't worry yourself about it. We're just glad you stepped up to it when the rest of the team refused to go. I hope the ship was satisfactory. We got it on cheap and for a good discount too. I saw a couple of leaks here and there, but I'm sure it'll be fine. Have a nice time at the village. Oh, and don't forget to use the notes we left with you. They might be a little water damaged. I accidentally dropped them in a puddle outside a bar. You know how it is.
The village has been burnt down and abandoned! Drag the brush out of the way to search for clues.

You have a SOS. Signal What do we do now?
When setting up your SOS Signal, you found an abandoned hut. Look around.
DEAR DIARY, I saw a boat in the distance. The white men on board have been nice. We use signs to communicate and they made me a rather ugle dress with their fabric. They told me the ship that took my family sunk after the voyage, so they had no way to get me. The white men will take me with them back to their home. Rontu-aru, my new pup, will come with me. Even if it's not my family on the ship, I can't stand to be on this island alone anymore. I wish to leave, to have some form of human connection. Its been 18 years. I'm finally leaving today.

DEAR DIARY, After everything that happened, I'm alone with my brother. When the ship came, I saw him on the beach with his fishing spear. The ship was pulling out. Despite the cries of my people who told me to leave him, I just couldn't, not after I lost my father. I jumped overboard into the water to stay with him. Surviving on the island shouldn't be that hard. I've got Ramo after all, and it's not like I'll have to stay long. They said they'd come back for me. We just need to survive together until then.

DEAR DIARY, After my father was killed, we elected a new chief. But the winter has been harder. We can't survive with so little numbers. Our new chief, Kimki, wants to go to a new island. He went off on his own to prepare it, and came back with a ship of his own - along with more white men. I don't know if I trust them, but what choice do we have.? I'll be on that boat.

DEAR DIARY, I've made a house out of some whale bones that washed up on shore. I like to fix some of my weapons while Rontu chases the gulls on the beach. My birds and otter are doing well too. There was a time when I would have judged any girl who made and used spears, but now its become a daily habit in my life. I need the spear to catch fish and protect myself from the other wild dogs, after all. I haven't seen the ship in a while. I hope they haven't forgotten about me.

DEAR DIARY, I met one of the Aleuts. They came to the island again and she spotted me in the woods. I wanted nothing to do with her after what her people did, but she was nice and traded with me. I wish I could understand her language. Maybe I shouldn't blame Tutok. She wasn't a part of the conflict. It's lonely without her around. I could have went with her when her and her people left, but I'm still waiting for my ship.

DEAR DIARY, I've lived on this island alone for years now. Even though the solitude is wearing on me, I still have Rontu. He's been my faithful companion for a long time, but wild dogs don't live as long as humans. His life will be coming to an end soon. I should find another pet soon. I don't think I can survive alone again. I need to gather some abolones on the shore and smoke them tonight. Hopefully a ship will come soon.

It was my fault there was an arrow stuck in his shoulder. It was my fault Ramo died. I fixed up the leader, but I don't know what to do with him now. He needs a name at least. This game is based off of the book, Island of the Blue Dolphins, by Scott O'Dell. Island of the Blue Dolphins is based off of a true event, following a young woman who lived alone on the Ghalas-at island, now called San Nicholas. Her people were forced to flee in the 1800s after a brutal battle broke out due to trade agreements with her people against the Aleuts and Russian hunters. Island of the Blue Dolphins is about survival and the need for human connection. Despite all the danger Karana, the main character, faces, she is in desperate need of someone to interact with. She takes in animals and becomes friends with her enemies just to feel like herself again. Human connection is important to survival.
