The Career Paths series
Career Paths is an innovative series of over 90 different titles for teaching English for Specific Purposes. These books have been designed for students of vocational centres to help them develop the language skills required to succeed in their chosen profession.

How is the book organised?
3 levels in 1 book: each title of Career Paths follows the same structure where each of the 3 books is essentially a level which provides graded progression for the learners. Book 1 is set at A1/A2 level, Book 2 at B1 and in Book 3 the learners reach B1+.

How is the book organised?
Each level contains 15 different units. In total, each Career Paths title has 45 different units.
Each unit deals with a specific theme from that vocation. Subject-specific vocabulary and language for this theme are taught and then practised using all 4 language skills.

Presentation of the individual teaching units
Every unit includes a test of reading comprehension, vocabulary and listening skills and leads students to written and oral production.

A sample unit from Electrician illustrates the new vocabulary of general tools used by Electricians and the related language skills.
Each lesson begins with the opportunity for learners to share their knowledge or experience through a warm-up activity.

The learners then go on to read about the different tools used by Electricians. This is followed by comprehension activities to help the learners develop their reading skills.
The texts are recorded to allow the learners the opportunity to pick up the new vocabulary and hear the correct pronunciation.

The new vocabulary is then practiced with different graded activities to help the learners assimilate and remember the new words.

Towards the end of the unit, the Career Paths series begins to look at the communicative aspects of the language. Listening exercises recycle subject-specific vocabulary and introduce the learners to realistic dialogues that they are likely to encounter in their workplace.

The listening dialogue then serves as a model for a speaking activity.
The speaking activity then leads into a writing exercise which asks the learners to complete a realistic writing text that they may be asked to perform in their place of work.

Career Paths is supported in digital format by the Express Digibooks application which allows learners to access the content of the book either online or offline.
