Muslims show charity by giving alms, which is clothing, food, or money that is given to poor people. To celebrate Muhammad’s birth month, Muslims fast, which means they stop themselves from eating or drinking during the daytime. Finally, Muslims make a pilgrimage, a journey to Mecca, because it has religious importance. [concluding sentences] These items called “pillars” are very important to Muslims. Just as an actual pillar supports things above it, these five pillars help Muslims live out what they believe in.
