Best Practices path
During this journey to achieve the highest standards, the Site PE and FC SME work together to explore potential best practices, implement them, and roll them out. As you put this knowledge into practice, take a look at the key features of each phase.

Intake phase
The intake phase is where continuous improvement ideas enter the Best Practice process. During this phase, ideas can originate from various sources including:
Gemba walks
CI tool submissions
Kaizen events
Other improvement activities

Intake phase
Let’s check now the main features of this phase:
After experimentation and your data collection, the Site PE and site team determine its success and potential. If the experiment was a success this idea can then be “promoted” as a Best Practice.
A Local POC and Site PE review determines if the idea can be implemented, evaluating its potential value and feasibility. If implementation is possible, the idea moves to local approvals and site experimentation for validation.
This phase is crucial as it ensures proper documentation and validation of improvements before they are considered for local or network-wide implementation.
As an FC SME, you will work closely with Site PE during this phase to document improvements, gather data, and validate results through local experimentation.

Which of the following sentences is correct?
If an idea is valuable, it means it will become a Best Practice or standard.
If an idea is valuable, it does not mean it meets the capabilities for a Best Practice or standard.
Revision phase
Your idea passed local experimentation and is now looking to be promoted as a Best practice. What’s next for you as a SME? Let’s check now the main features of this phase:
This process is now in the hands of Site PE and the PE NET team.
Data and attachments are important to document all of your findings during the Intake phase as an FC SME.
PPR (Process Path Review) calls are weekly meetings where the working group evaluates Best Practice proposals for network implementation. The core team, consisting of:PE NET, Super SMEs and Site PE.
The idea is reviewed to see if it is compliant with the BP requirements. It is important that the BP SIM contains all of the necessary data and attachments to pass this phase.

What is the purpose of a Process Path Review call?
Ensures proper documentation and validation.
Researches data.
Evaluates Best Practice proposals for network implementation.
Creates a group of people to detect possible Best Practices.
Extended test phase
During these calls, they determine if additional testing is needed, such as multi-site experiments, or if the BP can move directly to approval. This is how it works:
Extended test phase
Additional data
Evaluation leaders
Multi-site experiments

Why is data significantly important in this phase?
The data supports the improvement, but it is not definitive for deciding if it moves forward to network implementation.
The additional data gathered determines whether improvements move forward to network implementation.
Data is not significant at this point.
No additional data is needed in this phase.
Rollout phase
Have an overall look at the rollout phase:
The rollout phase begins after all approvals are completed.
It is the moment when PE NET triggers automation of BP rollout SIMs.
During this phase, Site PE receives the rollout SIM and must assign an owner within 7 days. That owner can be you as one of the FC SMEs.
Two action plans are automatically generated:
- A BP Available Action Plan tracking potential improvement opportunities.
- A BP Rollout Action Plan for implementation tracking.

If you are assigned as the implementation owner, or as the owner of parts of the Action Plan, who are you expected to work with to execute the standardized process?
Local POC

Well done!
Yes, even if the idea is valuable, it does not mean it meets the capabilities for a Best Practice or standard. In this case, there may be a possibility to submit it towards an OP1 Intake or be implemented locally, but not as a Best Practice.

Yes, during these calls, the core team determine if additional testing is needed, such as multi-site experiments, or if the BP can move directly to approval. Let’s explore now what happens when additional testing is needed.

Well done!
Remember, data collection must provide statistical significance. You must be sure you validate your data and take proper note of it. This testing phase ensures improvements can be successfully replicated across different FC environments before network-wide implementation. The results from these pilots inform final decisions about BP approval and rollout requirements.

Well done!
Yes, you will work with Site PE to execute the standardized process while maintaining proper documentation and metrics tracking. You will be directly responsible for ensuring timely deadlines, key metrics, and steps to make this rollout happen. No pressure! Work with your Manager and Site PE to discuss resources and time management.

HUP-HUP-hooray!
Knowing how to navigate the Best Practices process and understand the different phases and core content is key to producing optimal results for widespread adoption. Good job!
Responsibility
If a Multi-Site Experiment is conducted, a Super SME will be the owner of this test. If your FC is selected for this, you may be selected to support this experiment as the FC SME of the process path. The responsibilities would be similar to that of the Intake phase – Support Site PE in preparing, documenting, actioning, and communicating results.
Multi-site experiments
Multi-site experiments, or pilots, are conducted when PPR working group determines additional validation is needed. These pilots require a structured 1:1 ratio of test to control zones and must run for a minimum of 3 weeks across multiple site types.
Assessment
The assigned owner assesses feasibility for their FC, and either moves forward with implementation or documents barriers requiring exemption. This exemption process is conducted by Site PE and Site Leadership.
Responsibility
You will be directly responsible for ensuring timely deadlines, key metrics, and steps to make this rollout happen—no pressure! Work with your Manager and Site PE to discuss resources and time management.
Additional data
FC SMEs support their Site PE during this phase by providing additional data or clarification as needed. These calls serve as a critical checkpoint in the BP process, ensuring only validated, standardized improvements move forward to network implementation.
Evaluation leaders
While FC SMEs may be called upon to present their improvements, the PPR working group leads the evaluation and decision-making process.
Extended test phase
If multi-site testing is required, the process enters an extended test phase to gather statistical validation across multiple facilities.
Collaboration
If you are assigned as the implementation owner, or owner of parts of the Action Plan, you will work with Site PE to execute the standardized process while maintaining proper documentation and metrics tracking.
