The Circulatory System
The circulatory system is important because it keeps us alive and moving. It delivers oxygen and nutrients to every cell in the body and carries away waste, like carbon dioxide. Without it, our bodies wouldn’t get the fuel they need or be able to stay healthy.
The circulatory system is like the body’s delivery service. The heart pumps blood through arteries, which carry oxygen and nutrients to every part of the body. Then veins bring the blood back to the heart, so it can pick up more oxygen from the lungs and start the trip all over again.

Fun Facts
If we could join all the blood vessels in a human body together end-to-end, they would wrap around the world twice!
The heart is a powerful muscle that pumps approximately 9,092 litres of blood per day.

The Heart
The heart is like the engine of your body. It’s a strong muscle that never stops working, pumping blood everywhere you need it to go. The blood it sends out carries oxygen and nutrients, like fuel, to keep your body alive and full of energy. Without the heart, the circulatory system wouldn’t be able to do its job of keeping you healthy.
The Veins
Veins are like the body’s return roads. After your blood has dropped off oxygen and nutrients, veins carry it back to the heart. They have tiny valves that keep blood moving the right way, kind of like one-way doors. Without veins, your blood couldn’t make the full trip through the circulatory system.
Arteries
Arteries are like the body’s highways. They carry blood full of oxygen away from the heart and deliver it to all the parts of the body. Because the blood is moving fast and strong, artery walls are thick and tough. Without arteries, the heart’s pump couldn’t reach the rest of the body.
