THREE VITAL FUNCTIONS IN PLANTS

CHARACTERISTICS

  • Plants are living things.
  • Plants make their own food.
  • They need air, sunlight and water to survive.
  • Their roots absorb nutrients and water.

INTERACTION FUNCTION IN PLANTS

Plants react to the environment.

REACTING TO LIGHT

REACTING TO PHYSICALCONTACT

Roots grow in soil that has enough water to sustain the roots and the plant.

  • Climbing plants grow around other plants or objects.
  • Some plants have delicate leaves that close when touched.
  • Some owers close to trap insects
  • Plants’ stems grow towards light.
  • Sometimes they bend and twist to reach the light.
  • Some leaves and flowers move slowly to follow the Sun.

REACTING TO WATER

respiration of plants

All living organisms respire to survive. Plants are constantly resparing.

Sólo podéis leerlo en el caso de no entender absolutamente nada.

LEAVES

What is the difference between PHOTOSYNTHESIS and RESPIRATION?

Las plantas respiran para poder sobrevivir. Para eso, absorben el oxígeno del aire y expulsan el dióxido de carbono. Justo al revés que con la fotosíntesis.

Listen teacher explication

respiration and photosynthesis

PHOTOSYNTHESIS

RESPIRATION

  • Plants absorb oxygen and expell carbon dioxide.
  • Plants absorb carbon dioxide and expell oxygen.
  • It happens all the time (during the day and at night)
  • It happens during the DAY (with SUNLIGHT)

ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION

SEXUAL REDPRODUCTION

A part of a plant develops into a new plant

We need MALE and FEMALE cells. These cells together become a SEED that grow in a new plant.
