Reykjavík has a lively cultural scene, with major events like Culture Night in August and the Iceland Airwaves festival in November.
In July, the city hosts the Street Food Festival, and on Bun Day (Bolludagur), traditional sweets are enjoyed.
Every August, Reykjavík celebrates Menningarnótt, its biggest street festival. In 2025, it takes place on Saturday, August 23. The city’s birthday turns downtown into a vibrant scene of art, music, food, and fireworks.
Iceland has a strong literary tradition, and many of its notable figures have literary backgrounds.
