Sono di nuovo a scuola. È una madrasa, ovvero una scuola islamica. Sono ancora un pò frastornato, ma per fortuna Ho un insegnante e un aula tutta per me. La lingua locale è la prima cosa che devo imparare.

All'inizio sono diffidente, penso che queste cifre siano solo una traduzione dei numeri romani. I nove numeri arabi, come descrivete oggi sono: 9,8,7,6,5,4,3,,2,1. Con questi nuovi numeri e con un segno zero, che in arabo viene chiamato sifr, che vuol nulla, si può scrivere qualsiasi numero si voglia. Lo zero è una cifra che non avevo mai usato. Rappresenta il niente Niente ma mi apri gli occhi su mondo tutto nuovo. posso scrivere, dividerli e moltiplicare abbastanza facilmente. Mio padre ha detto che deve imparare questi numeri perché così secondo e si cominciano nei paesi arabi.
