Who was involved ? How it became bigger ?
It became bigger with the creation of the Court of Oyer and Terminer by Phips on may 1692 because the head judge, who was Stoughton had not studied the law and never heard a court case before so they didn't know anything. Moreover, with the creation of this court, some person were died so it became worse than before.
How it all started ?
In 1692, Betty Parris and Abigail Williams started to feeel bad so they went to the doctor. He checked over the girls, but determined they were in good health. He concluded that they must be "under an evil hand". After that, two more girls, Ann Putman Jr. and Betty Hubbard began showing the same symptoms. That's why the term of "Salem's Witches" was born.

The village of Salem was founded in 1626 by settlers from Europe. The principal religion in this toxn was Puritanism. Indeed, puritans were Christians people who tought if they led pure. They would be closed to God so that's why they weren't allowed to dance, sing , listen to music or play games.
When it ended and how ?
At first the witch hunt had gotten out of control by the fall of 1692 so Governor Phips put an end to it by arresting the witchcraft arrests and shut down the Court of Oyer and Terminer. To finish Phips pardoned all the prisoners who were still in jail.
