Bonding

TEKS: 1.7A

The student is expected to model basic atomic structure and relate an element's atomic structure to its bonding, reactivity, and placement on the Periodic Table

The outer most electrons. These are the electrons that are available for bonding.

Bonding of metals-Metal usually bonds with a nonmetal

One or more elements present

Positively or negatively charged atom

Anything that gives a chemical its identity Atomic Mass Atomic Number etc

Where the electrons are shared equally amongst the atoms. Very strong.

How we represent molecules-O2 CO2

Weaker Bond. Electrons are not shared. One atom takes electrons from the other atom. Example is table salt (NaCl)

All elements want a full octet-all want a full shell
