Alma and Roy have a video call meeting. Alma is the manager of the sales team, and Roy joined the team three months ago.
Finally!
The whole team has a lot of work, Roy has requested to hold this meeting because he is encountering some difficulties in completing a project.
Roy: Good morning, Alma! How are you? Alma: Hi, Roy. I'm good, I'm sorry, but I don't have much time; I have a very busy day today. How are you doing with the project? Roy: Thanks for asking. The truth is I am facing some difficulties. I am working on several tasks at once and feel like I'm not really making progress on any of them.
Well, we are off to a great start, Alma didn't reserve enough time for our meeting...
Continue
Alma: Hmm okay, the delivery date is approaching. Do you have a clear understanding of the order of tasks and the processes you need to follow with the deliverables?
Roy: Yes, but the problem is that some of the tasks are new to me, and that makes me progress more slowly. I would like to spend more time on them, but I feel like I can't because I have to meet other responsibilities as well. What really worries me is that I feel like I don't have the necessary support to learn these new tasks and that I don't have enough time to train in those areas.
Alma: Okay, I think I understand what you're saying, you've only been with us for three months...
Alma: I should have focused more on your formative stage.Sometimes, as a manager, I want everything to be under control and meet deadlines, but I overlook these kinds of issues. What can I do to help you work better? What do you need from me right now?
Continue
Roy: Well, if I could receive support from someone with more experience in the new tasks, that would help me a lot. I would also like to have more frequent feedback on the status of my deliveries in this project, to correct possible errors earlier.
Alma: That seems totally reasonable to me, I will talk to your teammates and assign one of them to accompany you for a week in completing those tasks. I'm sure it will resolve all your doubts. I will also implement a weekly follow-up meeting between you and me while the project lasts, to align the results and expectations.
Roy: I appreciate it, Alma, this gives me quite a bit of peace of mind. Sometimes we just need to know that you understand our situations and that we can count on your support.
Alma: Thanks to you, I realize that I need to ask more and listen better to know how I can support the team, and not just focus on chasing results. Let's stay in touch, have a great day! Roy: Likewise, we'll talk next week!
