Il mito

Dal greco mỳthos ("parola, racconto"), è una narrazione di importanti gesta compiute da dei, semidei, eroi, mostri etc. Nasce nell'antichità per offrire una spiegazione a fenomeni naturali (la pioggia, il ciclo del sole...), legittimare religioni e riti e, più genericamente, rispondere alle grandi domande che gli uomini si pongono dall'inizio dei secoli (cos'è l'amore? cosa succede dopo la morte?...). Si diffuse oralmente prima di venire scritto nei libri.

Dei, semidei, eroi ed eroine, mostri, creature magiche e molto altro sono i personaggi preferiti di un mito

I tempi sono antichissimi e vaghi, indefinibili, mentre i luoghi possono essere sia reali che immaginari ma hanno sempre un'aura di magia che li allontana dalla realtà del nostro mondo

L'amore è un concetto così importante e radicato nella storia dell'uomo che ogni civiltà ha creato una divinità apposta e ne ha dato molte immagini e versioni diverse su come nasca e cosa ci spinga ad amare ed essere amati. Leggiamo i brani del libro!

Se il mito nasce per bisogno di risposte a importanti domande, l'epica si fonda sul desiderio umano di storie e avventure da narrare e ascoltare. E ancora oggi quelle storie che facevano infuocare di rabbia, bruciare d'amore e piangere d'odio ci emozionano ed appassionano come fossero scritte adesso.

Comunemente è a questo autore (ma non scrittore!) che si fanno risalire i due più grandi e illustri poemi epici greci: l'Iliade e l'Odissea. Tuttavia si hanno da sempre dubbi su chi fosse stato e se fosse effettivamente esistito un "Omero".

L'Iliade e l'Odissea parlano della stessa guerra ma sono profondamente diverse l'una dall'altra, per questo molti pensano non siano dello stesso autore. Detto va che furono scritte molto più tardi di quando nacque il loro mito...

Riconosciamo che l'epica omerica nasce come orale perchè sono ripetute più forumle simili (detti epiteti, es. Achille piè veloce, Eos dalle rosee guance) che servivano a ricordarsi meglio la storia, un po' come i ritornelli delle canzoni! Solo nel VII sec. a.C., quando i tiranni di Atene Ipparco e Ippia decisero di costruire una biblioteca vennero messi per iscritto: in quella biblioteca non potevano mancare i poemi omerici! Ecco quindi l’occasione per radunare un gruppo di cantori e scrittori che mettes-sero nero su bianco i poemi. Forse dunque è per questo che spesso sono contradditorie, oltre a essere così diverse, queste due opere... Che sia esistito o no poco importa: quello che importa è il panorama di eroi e storie immortali che ha regalato all'umanità.
