WHEN WAS IT BORN?
The European Day of Languages (EDL) was first celebrated in 2001 during the European Year of Languages. At the end of this campaign the Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers decided to make EDL an annual event, to be celebrated each 26th September.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
The European Day of Languages (EDL) is important because it celebrates and promotes the linguistic and cultural diversity in Europe and in the world.
WHAT IS ITS GOAL?
Its goal is to:
- Preserve European identities (including minorities)
- Celebrate linguistic and cultural diversity
- Push people to learn different languages
