Hi, my name is Alex. I have two Yorkies, and this is my fourth year living in Canada after moving here from South Africa. I live with my mom, while my dad lives in Texas, and I enjoy visiting my family in the States. I love sports, especially soccer, and I also enjoy dirt biking in my free time.

How Teachers Can Support Me
Group projects can be difficult for me, especially when groups are chosen by teachers. Because of my social anxiety, I prefer working with people I know or working independently. I feel more comfortable and productive when I’m in a familiar environment. Another tip that supports my learning is having very clear instructions and due dates. I benefit from structure, and when assignments are explained in detail, I can approach the work with confidence and stay on track.
Strengths
What I Do Well
One of my biggest strengths is communication. I find it easy to connect with people, share ideas, and express myself clearly. Another area where I succeed is organization, which helps me manage my responsibilities and stay on top of tasks when I’m focused. I also adapt well to different situations, which allows me to problem-solve effectively. These strengths help me in school, in sports, and in my personal life, as they support both teamwork and independence.

Interests
My Passions and Hobbies
Soccer is one of my biggest passions—I play on multiple teams, and it’s a sport that motivates me both physically and mentally. Photography is another interest of mine, where I enjoy capturing moments and expressing creativity through images. Outside of sports and photography, I also love baking and dirt biking. Baking gives me a chance to create sweet treats for my friends and family, while dirt biking provides the thrill of adventure and excitement. These activities bring balance to my life and give me ways to express myself in different settings.
Learning Stles
How I Learn Best
I am a kinesthetic learner, which means I learn best through doing. Hands-on activities, movement, and interactive tasks help me stay engaged and allow me to understand new concepts fully. When I’m able to physically connect with what I’m learning, I retain information more effectively and feel more confident in my abilities.
- Learning styles describe the different ways people take in, process, and remember information. Some people learn best by listening (auditory), others by watching (visual), and others—like me—through doing (kinesthetic). Knowing your learning style can help you find strategies that make schoolwork easier and more effective.

Where I Struggle
One area I need to work on is managing deadlines. I sometimes forget due dates or procrastinate, which can make it difficult to stay on top of assignments. This often leaves me feeling stressed when deadlines approach. Another challenge I face is maintaining consistency. While I’m strong in organization when I apply myself, I sometimes lose focus, especially when schedules aren’t reinforced. Clear communication and reminders really help me overcome this.Whatever you want!
- What I’m Implementing
- To improve in this area, I’ve started using my phone’s calendar to set reminders for assignments and due dates. Over the past year, this has helped me remember deadlines much better and made me feel more prepared. I’m continuing to build this habit so I can stay consistent in the future.tent.
Extra Things to Know
Name, Pronouns and post secondary
On the first day, you may have heard me mention that while the attendance list says Summer, I go by Alex in class. My pronouns are they/them, but when information goes home—such as report cards, emails, or school documents—it needs to use Summer and she/her pronouns. For post-secondary, my plan is to take a gap year and work with Club Med on a cruise ship to gain experience and travel. After that, I’m interested in going into the trades, where I can build a long-term career using hands-on skills.
