Assessment Item 4: Completes food preparation skills like spreading, measuring, and pouring

The client reports that his wife pours his drinks for him or that they purchase drinks in individual serving bottles/cans. His wife also completes all kitchen tasks like measuring, spreading, etc. So, he is not interested in learning any of this. How would you rate the pre-assessment?

First appointment: The client reports that his wife pours his drinks for him or that they purchase drinks in individual serving bottles/cans. His wife also completes all kitchen tasks, measuring, spreading, etc. So, he is not interested in learning any of this. You have rated the pre-assessment as NA. Later, during another appointment, you verbally give examples of using contrast. One of the examples is pouring coffee into a white mug. At the next appointment, you ask the client if he has found any ways to use contrast. He reports that he poured his own coffee. He seems proud of this accomplishment, and his wife is smiling as he describes his success. What would you do next?

Later, during another appointment, you give examples of using contrast. One of the examples is pouring coffee into a white mug. At the next appointment, you ask the participant if he has found any ways to use contrast. He reports that he poured his own coffee. How would you rate the pre-assessment now?

After rating the pre-assessment as 1, you provide instruction in several options for accurate pouring. The client practices each option successfully. At the next appointment, you ask him how it is going. He says he has been doing very well with his coffee since he can use contrast, but that water and soda are causing him some difficulty. However, he says he rarely drinks soda, and if water spills, he doesn’t care so much. How would you rate the post-assessment for this item?

First meeting: The client reports that his wife pours his drinks for him or that they purchase drinks in individual serving bottles/cans. His wife also completes all kitchen tasks, measuring, spreading, etc. So, he is not interested in learning any of this. You have rated the pre-assessment as NA. Later, the participant attends a peer support meeting where others are pouring their own drinks. When you ask him about how he liked the meeting, he describes how the members were independently pouring drinks. You talk with him about some ways to be independent in pouring, and he willingly practices a few techniques during the appointment. After placing and pouring in an expansion slot, how would you now rate the pre-assessment for pouring?

You have rated pouring in an expansion slot. The pre-assessment rating is 1. The client attends a peer support meeting where others are pouring their own drinks. When you ask him about how he liked the meeting, he describes how the members were independently pouring drinks. You talk with him about some ways to be independent in pouring, and he willingly practices a few techniques during the appointment. He correctly uses two different methods of pouring without spilling. At the next peer support meeting, you observe the client successfully pouring his own coffee. How would you rate the post-assessment?
