Dick whittington and his cat
Dick was a poor orphan who left his village for London. His only friend was a cat, who helped him get rid of the rats. When the ship arrived in a distant kingdom infested with rats, the cat solved the problem, and in return, the king gave the merchant enormous riches.
Lady godiva
Lady Godiva was married to Leofric, a powerful lord. When her husband imposed very high taxes on the citizens, she asked him to lower them. Leofric said he would do it only if she rode naked through the streets. Godiva covered only by her long hair, she rode through the town. Thanks to her courage, the taxes were reduced.
The legend of gelert
The Welsh prince Llewelyn had a faithful dog, Gelert. One day he came home and found his child’s cradle empty and Gelert covered in blood. The giant's causeway
In Northern Ireland, there is the Giant’s Causeway, a natural road made of thousands of basalt columns. Legend has it that the giant Finn MacCool built it to fight a Scottish giant. But when he saw how enormous the giant was, his wife disguised him as a baby: the Scottish giant, frightened by the idea that the “father” of such a huge baby must be even bigger, fled, destroying part of the road.
