The transfer

From Egypt to Madrid with SIT

The Temple of Debod is a structure dedicated to Amun and Isis, originally built by Adijalamani and later modified by Ptolemy IV. It remained intact for 2,200 years until, in 1961, it was studied, dismantled, and transported stone by stone to the island of Elephantine by the Egyptian Antiquities Service and a team from the Polish Archaeological Mission. There, SIT collected the stones in April 1970 and transported them to Alexandria, from where the shipment was sent by sea to Valencia. The ship Benisa arrived at port on June 18, where our trucks were waiting to transport its valuable cargo to a site located on the grounds of the former Cuartel de la Montaña, where it was stored.

This project marked one of the first major international heritage transports carried out by the company — and positioned SIT as a trusted expert in cultural logistics.
