To make it easier, biologist classify species according to taxonomic categories and evolutionary relationships.

Some biologist calculate around 8.75 millions of species, however only 1.2 have been described by scientists

Phylogenetics

Taxonomy the branch of science concerned with classification, especially of organisms; it names and classify species.

Phylogenetics is the study of evolutionary relationships between biological entities (species, genes, or proteins), using observable traits or genetic sequences to construct phylogenetic trees.

Species is the smallest taxon. The scientific name consists of two Latin words, which are genus and species. They should be written in italics. The first letter (genus) is capitalized, and all letters of the species are lowercase. Examples of species:

A taxon (plural: taxa) is a group of one or more organisms that are classified together based on shared characteristics and arranged in a hierarchical system of biological classification, known as taxonomy. E.g. Vertebrates taxon, Canidae taxon.
