The Conveyor Belt starts in the North Atlantic Ocean near the pole. Cold Arctic air chills the water, and when sea ice forms, it leaves salt behind, making the water saltier. The cold, salty water becomes heavier and sinks to the ocean bottom. Warmer surface water then flows in to replace it, creating a moving current.
