What does Cyberbullying look like? 👀
Cyberbullying involves SENDING, POSTING, or SHARING negative, HARMFUL, FALSE, or MEAN content about someone else. It can occur through SMS, TEXT messages, or APPS. It can also happen online in SOCIAL MEDIA, FORUMS, or GAMING platforms. Here, people can VIEW, PARTICIPATE IN, or SHARE content.
What are effects of Cyberbullying? 🤕
It can include sharing personal or private information about someone else causing embarrassment or humiliation. Some cyberbullying crosses the line into unlawful or criminal behavior.
What can you do about Cyberbullying? 🦸

Bots

Helpful Bots
A BOT is a SOFTWARE PROGRAM that automatically performs TASKS online.
  • Think of it as a computer program designed to IMITATE what a HUMAN does, but on a MUCH LARGER and FASTER SCALE.
  • Some BOTS are designed to COLLECT INFORMATION, while OTHERS mimic HUMAN BEHAVIOR to sneak past SECURITY MEASURES and LAUNCH ATTACKS very quickly.

Think Critically

Block & Report

Be skeptical of new accounts

Always take a moment to think, "Is this person real?" before talking to them. If something feels strange or seems too perfect, it probably is. If you're ever unsure about someone online, ask a parent or another trusted grown-up for help.

- If you suspect an account is a bot, block them. - Most social media platforms have a way to report accounts that are fake or are being used for spam. - Reporting helps the platform get rid of them and protects other people too.

Don't click suspicious links

Harmful Bots

Look for signs

If a brand-new account with no profile picture or friends starts following you, or if a random account sends you a direct message, be cautious. It's often a bot.

Bots usually have simple, ordinary names, share content that seems random or copied from elsewhere, and behave in odd ways, like posting at all times of the day and night.

This is a huge one. Malicious bots often try to get you to click on links that can lead to viruses, scams, or phishing websites.

As bots get smarter, they can seem more and more like real people.

Don't automatically trust accounts you interact with online!

Catfish

The person you think you're talking to isn't real!

Catfishing is when someone creates a FAKE online IDENTITY to TRICK or DECEIVE others.
  • They might USE fake PHOTOS, MAKE UP a whole NEW IDENTITY, or STEAL someone else's PERSONAL INFORMATION.
  • Catfishers often TARGET PEOPLE on SOCIAL MEDIA, DATING APPS, and even in ONLINE GAMES.

They may be lonely, have low self-esteem, or feel they can't make friends in real life. Creating a fake identity allows them to feel accepted and liked.

Some catfishers use their fake identity to manipulate their victims into sending them money. They might create a fake emergency or a sob story to get you to give them money.

Some people catfish to mess with someone's feelings. They might be trying to get revenge on someone or just find it funny to trick people.

Why do they do it?

Trolls

A TROLL is someone who intentionally HARASSES people online.
  • They often use RUDE, OFFENSIVE, or DISRUPTIVE comments.
  • A troll might try to START ARGUMENTS, POST NEGATIVE REVIEWS, DENY OBVIOUS FACTS, or SPAM COMMENTS.

Being anonymous online can make people feel more confident and less responsible for what they do, compared to talking in person.

Trolls often ignore the real facts and instead make rude comments or talk about things that don't matter.

Trolls often use words like "always" or "never" to make things seem more extreme than they really are, instead of using more careful or balanced words.

They might criticize what you think, call you names, or act as if they think they're better than you.

Their main goal is to get a reaction and disrupt normal conversation.
Resetting the Robot Brain

If you have followed the steps to update the robot brain, double checked the installed program(s), and are still having trouble you will need to reset the robot brain.

  • Only do this if updating and redownloading programs does not correct the problem
  • Make sure all motors and sensors are disconnected
🦸 What to do about Cyberbullying

Engaging with them, even to defend yourself, can escalate the situation and is often what the bully wants.

Take screenshots of the messages, comments, or posts. Note the time, date, and URLs. This information is crucial!

Save the evidence

Most social media platforms, messaging apps, and email services allow you to block users.

Block them

Talk to a parent, teacher, school counselor, or another trusted adult. You can also contact a cyberbullying hotline or a mental health professional.

Tell a trusted adult

Use the built-in reporting features on the social media platform, app, or website where the bullying is occurring.

Report them

Protect Yourself

🛡️Be cautious. If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. 🛡️Check their pictures online. Right-click on their profile photo and use Google or another search engine to see if the picture appears anywhere else. This can help you tell if the photo is fake or from a famous person. 🛡️Never send money. A genuine friend would never ask you to send money, especially before you’ve met in person. 🛡️Talk to a trusted adult. If you think someone is pretending to be someone else or you’re unsure about what’s happening, tell a parent, teacher, or another adult you trust right away. They can help you figure things out and get help if needed.

Update Brain Firmware

At least once per season all brains will need a firmware update. Additionally, motors, sensors, and controllers will need updates.

  • Click + on the brain to the right that matches your robot brain
  • Update the brain without anything else connected first
  • Connect the controller and update again if necessary
  • Connect morots and sessors and update one more time if neede
