WHAT ARE ESPORTS?
Esports is a term to describe competitive video gaming. Esports games are grouped into different genres. Just like films or TV shows can be classed as action, comedy, or drama, games are placed into categories that describe their style of play. For example, Valorant is a First Person Shooter, while Fortnite is a Battle Royale. These genres help us understand the type of game and how it is played. Some of the individual skills needed include reflexes, decision making and strategy, whilst team skills include communication, teamwork and leadership. Similar to traditional sports like Football, Rugby and Boxing, esports typically has an engaging spectator element and often features rewards for placing well.
Whilst watching: Think about all the different jobs being done to put on an event of this magnitude!

- Describe each game and its genre clearly.
- Describe the skills needed for individual players, and for teams where the game is played in a team format.
- Choose three games across different genres.
- Describe in more detail how each game is played.
- Describe clearly the importance of both individual and team skills as relevant, with examples.
- Give your opinion on why these skills are important for success in esports.
