Objetivos del curso

Comunicación: Desarrollar la capacidad de comprender y expresarse en situaciones cotidianas usando español oral y escrito. Vocabulario: Ampliar el vocabulario en temas como organización social, identidades, como compartimos el planeta, ingenio humano, y experiencias. Gramática: Consolidar el uso de los tiempos verbales del presente y del pasado, y avanzar hacia los mandatos, el subjuntivo y los tiempos compuestos. Cultura: Explorar las tradiciones, costumbres y perspectivas de los países hispanohablantes para fomentar la apreciación intercultural. Conexiones IB: Desarrollar destrezas críticas de lectura, escritura, comprensión auditiva y expresión oral que se conectan con los objetivos del Programa del Bachillerato Internacional. Confianza: Construir confianza para comunicarse en español dentro y fuera de la clase a través de la práctica continua.

Course Objectives

Communication: Develop the ability to understand and express yourself in everyday situations using spoken and written Spanish. Vocabulary: Expand vocabulary in themes such as social organization, identities, sharing the planet, human ingenuity, and experiences. Grammar: Strengthen use of present and past verb tenses, while progressing to commands, the subjunctive, and compound tenses. Culture: Explore the traditions, customs, and perspectives of Spanish-speaking countries to foster intercultural appreciation. IB Connections: Build critical skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking that align with International Baccalaureate program objectives. Confidence: Gain confidence in communicating in Spanish both inside and outside of class through ongoing practice.

Course Outline

🌎Themes We Will Explore Identities: Exploring the nature of the self and what it means to be human Experiences: Exploring and telling the story of the events, experiences, and journeys that shape our lives Human Ingenuity: Exploring how human creativity and innovation affect our world Social Organization: Exploring how groups of people self-organize or are organized through systems or shared interests Sharing the Planet: Exploring the challenges and opportunities of living together in an interconnected world

📚 Course Approach Frequent quizzes, conversations, mastery assignments Mix of review previosuly learned content while developing several new skills Daily speaking activities modeled after the IA and many more opportunities to practice speaking IB focus - mostly on oral (IA) until March, then shift to May exam prep.

VHL Textbook website - vocab and structure follow the scope and sequence of the book and we will use it to practice concepts we learn about in class VHL Sitio web del libro de texto - El vocabulario y la gramática siguen el plan y la secuencia del libro, y lo usaremos para practicar los conceptos que aprendemos en clase.

Google Site Daily plans, links to notes, videos, ... You're absent, Start with OneNote before you ask what we did Google Site Planes diarios, enlaces a apuntes, videos… ¿Estuviste ausente? Empieza con OneNote antes de preguntar qué hicimos.

Schoology Start here everyday for verb practice, vocab review, quizzes, cultural curiosities... Schoology Empieza aquí todos los días para la práctica de verbos, el repaso de vocabulario, los cuestionarios y las curiosidades culturales…

Clase diaria

Hasta marzo (cuando se realiza el examen oral), tendremos práctica del IA casi todos los días, normalmente para terminar la clase. Una vez que el IA haya concluido, haremos exámenes de práctica y tendremos muchas oportunidades de práctica y desarrollo.

Después de la prueba, empieza en Schoology Práctica de verbos, repaso de vocabulario y una curiosidad cultural forman parte del calentamiento. Luego pasamos a Estructuras/ Práctica Diaria. Las estructuras son pequeñas pero frecuentes. Casi siempre hay apuntes escritos y videos disponibles por si necesitas más tiempo con lo que vimos en clase

¿Tenemos pruebas casi todos los días? Casi siempre. ¿Habrá una prueba la próxima clase? Casi con toda seguridad. ¿Necesito estudiar? ¡Claro que sí! ¿Tendremos tiempo para estudiar antes de la prueba? Hasta que empiece la clase.

Daily routines

Until March (when the oral take splace), we will have almost daily IA practice usually to finish class. Once the IA is over, we will take practice tests and have lots of practice and development opportunities.

We have quizzes are almost every day Is there a quiz next class? Almost certainly Do I need to study? Oh, yeah! Will we have time to study before the quiz? Right until class starts

After the quiz, start in Schoology Verb practice, vocab review, and a cultural curiosity will start the warmup before moving on to Daily Structures/Practice Structures are bite-sized, but frequent- written notes and videos are almost always available in case you need some more time with what was covered

Repaso de vocabulario - click on what you don't know - they'll be on the board too for the class to fill in

If we have a quiz, it will be on Schoology. It will open at the start of class and it will close 5-10 minutes later

Usually 20 verbs to conjugate using the most recently studied concepts

Dominio is usually assigned for major concepts in class and there are activities/levels (Nivel) that students must progress through (grade based on what is completed)

20% for each category Dominio (Mastery), Práctica (Daily practice), Pruebas/Exámenes (Quizzes/Tests), Tarea auditiva (Spoken Language tasks), Tarea escrita (Written language tasks) Letter grade percentages are set at the district level

Objetivos

¡Bienvenidos!!

This class is pretty intense between reviewing previously learned, but essential structures while building some more advanced structures- oh yeah - also learning what IB tests are all about. But it should be really enjoyable. We will cover lots of vocab and grammar while exploring all the different cultures of the Spanish speaking world.

This includes mostly reading, but some writing assignments as well would be included in this category

Práctica is a completion score based on the daily Schoology assignment; VHL assignments are based on accuracy
