8. What to Track?

Objectives

I can identify different data collection methods to use in the classroom. I can facilitate data collection in my classroom placement. I can collect data to track student progress.

WHy Collect Data?

  • Data collection is essential to tracking student progress and identifying academic challenges.
  • Data collection is necessary to IEPs, 504s, and Behavior plans.
  • Data collection supports the academic, behavioral, and/or social growth of students and helps to identify what is working and what needs to change.

An Effective data collection System includes

Accessibility

-Easy to locate-Doesn't waste time

Simplicity

-Don't over complicate

Consistency

Validity

-the same time/method daily-everyone should know how to collect the data

-System matches function-Measures what is targeted -Meaningful

Types of Collected Data

Direct Observation

Checklists

Rating Scales

Tallies/checks are utilized to track target behaviors.

Colors/faces/numbers/etc used to determine how behavior is during increments of time.

Adult visually sees student participating in action and/or behavior.

Direct Observation

-Data collection through observation of students in the clasroom, doing a task

Checklist

-Used to track data quickly and efficiently

Rating Scales

-Used primarily for behavior systems during the day and parent communication-Click the clouds below for examples

Types of Collected Data

What data can be tracked?

Behavioral

Functional

Academic

Data collected tracks specific academic skills.

Data collected tracks specific behaviors.

Data collected tracks specific skills that are utilized in daily life (ex. zipping/buttoning coat, tie shoes, packing up, etc.)

Academic Data

-Data collection of academic skills (ELA, Math, Science, SS)

Behavioral Data

-Collecting data to track specific behaviors throughout the school day.

Functional Data

-Data collected to track a skill needed for daily functioning.

Data Collection/Goal Tracking

data should be taken in any classroom make up

Students will NOT have IEPs, but may have behavior plans

General Education

One general education and one special education teacher assigned to room

Team Teaching

Resource Room/LLD

Multiply Disabled

Students receive pull out education services in a smaller classroom setting

Students are classified with multiple disabilities

Teachers Will...

Identify Target behaviors

Target goals and behaviors will be provided for selected students

Identify Data collection Forms

Data collection form will be chosen and reviewed with IA

Demo how to collect data

IA must be shown how to collect the specific data for each student

Review/evaluate Data collection throughout the year

Reflect, Reflect, Reflect

Got an idea?

Let the communication flow!

With Genially templates, you can include visual resources to wow your audience. You can also highlight a particular sentence or piece of information so that it sticks in your audience’s minds, or even embed external content to surprise them: Whatever you like! Do you need more reasons to create dynamic content? No problem! 90% of the information we assimilate is received through sight and, what’s more, we retain 42% more information when the content moves.

  • Generate experiences with your content.
  • It’s got the Wow effect. Very Wow.
  • Make sure your audience remembers the message.
