THE SYLLABUS BEWARE: a part of the syllabus is compulsory

This year, we will tackle the three themes included in the programme (but not all the axes). We will read and analyse two literary works and we will watch and analyse a film: NOVELS: Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, 2013, UK. Brooklyn by Colm Tóibín, 2009, Ireland FILM: The Piano by Jane Campion, 1993, Australian and French co-production, Cannes. You must buy the novels as soon as possible (try to have them by the end of next week). We will start with Americanah.

ASSESSMENTS and ASSIGNMENTS

For each theme and each axis, you will have an INTERMEDIATE and a FINAL task to carry out as well as some evaluations in the FIVE LANGUAGE SKILLS:SPEAKING / READING / WRITING / LISTENING / INTERACTING 1. While developing a unit, you will be evaluated (either orally or in written form) in order to check your understanding of the work done during classes. 2. At the end of every unit, you will have a final task. Most units will also include an intermediate task. 3. IMPORTANT: if you are absent, you must do the task during the following English lesson. 4. At the end of each term, you will also be given a mark for your work and oral participation in class if it helps you improve your average (the COMMITMENT MARK).

GRAND ORAL

MOCK EXAMS FOR THE LLCE

You will have two mock exams for the WRITTEN PART (December and March) and one mocks exam for the ORAL PART (possibly April). All the class activities have been conceived to train you for the end of year exams.

You will have a mock exam for the GRAND ORAL (date still to be determined)

MATERIAL and RESOURCES

For our lessons, you will need to have: A copybook or a folder A well-provided pencil-case A logbook (carnet de bord) A small copybook for drafts (cahier de brouillon) The copy of the literary work we are studying on the day of the lesson Our UNITS are mostly based on the content of the following textbook: Shine Bright , 1er/Tle - Spécialité LLCE Anglais Ed. Nathan For your homework, you will need to check Pronote and rely on Moodle LMS (Learning Management System) on a regular basis.

Our daily routine in class

Rituals:

  • Before entering the classroom, you will wait outside until the teacher welcomes you to come in;
  • Once inside, you will wait standing until the teacher tells you to sit down.
  • A student will volunteer to take attendance/ call the roll (that student will be you at some point).
  • Every school term, we will have a ritual that will be carried out at the beginning of class and that will be graded.
  • A student will remind the class the homework for the day.
  • HOMEWORK CORRECTION, A LESSON RECAP or WARM-UP ACTIVITIES will follow.

Lessons, homework and Pronote:

At the end of each class, you can either have a lesson and some new vocabulary on the board or some documents studied in class. Your HOMEWORK will be to learn them. Also, you will often have some activities to carry out at home. If you wish to do some extra-homework, the teacher will be more than pleased to correct it. Remember that asking AI to do your homework prevents you from learning. However, relying on AI for specific and well-guided tasks can become an asset. We will learn together (although some of you may already know) how to rely on AI effectively. When doing your homework, use online dictionaries and websites (see examples on the sheet given in class). If you are absent, you can find the lesson content on Pronote in the tab (onglet) “contenu du + jour” and the homework in the tab “travail à effectuer”. Also, if you have a problem finding the information, you can always CONTACT the teacher at the following e-mail address: missmaffei@gmail.com So, no excuse for not doing your homework or not learning your lesson will be accepted. Not doing your homework will have consequences: three occurrences will imply a one-hour detention.

Behaviour before and in class:

  • Latecomers will not be accepted in class and will have to go to the ‘vie scolaire’ with a task to carry out and to hand in for correction at the end of the hour.
  • Mobile phones are not allowed in class nor in the school.
  • However, sometimes we will be using mobile phones in class for pedagogical purposes. Yet, if they are misused, they will be placed on the teacher's desk to be given back at the end of the class. Misusing a mobile phone will imply detention.

Do you have any questions?

That's All Folks

Thank you for listening! Ms Maffei

LLCE Langues, Littératures et Cultures Etrangères Programme de Terminale

It is extremely important that you read this year program to better understand the themes and the axes it is based on. The programme is written in French and it provides some useful examples that will help you make comparisons and establish the links among all the topics we will tackle in class on a daily basis.

You will have LLCE on: Tuesday from 12:45am to 3pm Thursday from 12:45am to 3pm Friday from 9:45am to 11:45am

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod.

WHERE WILL YOU LEARN? Your lessons will take place in: classroom S3 304 on Tuesday and Thursday classroom S3 204 on Friday Sometimes we will be in the COMPUTER LAB, where you will carry out your projects. Every now and then, we will also go to the SCREENING ROOM to either watch a movie or for THEATRE WORKSHOPS.

Once again, your logbook will be an essential tool for you to collect ideas for your GRAND ORAL. As a matter of fact, if you take notes on the topics you are deeply interested in, you will be able to pick a subject you will be highly motivated to present to the jury. The best performances are those of the students who are passionate about what they are talking.

CONCEPT NOTES & PORTFOLIO PREPARATION

The WRITTEN EXAM consists in drafting a CONCEPT NOTE based on the analysis of a given FILE, composed of 3 or 4 documents (literary excerpts, poems, songs, iconographic documents such as paintings, graffiti, posters, etc.) to answer a GIVEN QUESTION. The ORAL EXAM consists in an ORAL PRESENTATION of your PORTFOLIO (10 minutes), followed by an ORAL INTERACTION on ITS CONTENT (10 minutes). You will choose the DOCUMENTS to compile your PORTFOLIO, according to the QUESTION you have chosen to answer. This is why it is very important for you to keep a logbook where you can take notes about the topics you are interested in (whether presented in class or found somewhere else). At the end of this year you will: 1. Sit a written exam that will last 2 hours (end of March/ beginning of April) - Epreuve de synthèse 2. Take an oral exam based on a shorter version of the final year portfolio (10/12 minutes) - Epreuve orale: présentation d'un dossier et interaction.

Now, it's your turn! Create an ad to promote the LLCE Section in your high school. This task must be based on your last year experience and anecdotes. Make it fun to watch :)

Instructions:

  • Work in small groups of 4–5 students.
  • You have 15 minutes to prepare a short advertisement that motivates people to learn the English language, focusing especially on literature and its usefulness.
  • Your ad should be:
  • based on your last year experience (focus on what you enjoyed or give advice to teachers to make it more enjoyable ;)
  • Short, clear, and persuasive.
  • Creative (you may make it a short skit, a rap, a speech, etc.).
  • Inclusive of different ways to learn English (at least two).
  • Make sure every group member has a role.
  • Once ready, present your ad to the class.
