L'UNESCO ha prodotto un documento che si chiama: Learning to Become with the world. Education for future survival.Questo documento è strutturato su sette visioni (Visionary Declarations) che delineano un quadro generale di obiettivi a medio-lungo termine.

Il Professor C. MARIANI - Ricercatore Indire, ha adattato le 7 Visioni dell'Unesco al contesto della scuola italiana (secondaria di primo e secondo grado) negli ORIZZONTI DI SENSO.Ciascuno degli ORIZZONTI DI SENSO è collegato alla corrispondente visione (Unesco) di Learning to Become. I 7 orizzonti di senso esprimono la sintesi delle 7 visioni in termini educativi e culturali.

Il trasferimento delle visioni (step 1) e degli orizzonti di senso (step 2) in una PROPOSTA CURRICOLARE necessita di individuare centri di interesse e aree del curricolo in cui la scuola possa riconfigurare le attività di insegnamento, i processi di valutazione, la dimensione organizzativa.Le azioni e le attività che la scuola predispone a questo livello consentono di articolare un vero e proprio curricolo con soluzioni che integrano, ottimizzano e ristrutturano quello previsto negli ordinamenti.

Sono i contentuti IRRINUNCIABILI dei saperi, declinati in termini di conoscenze, abilità e competenze. I nuclei tematici sono elaborati e costruiti dagli insegnanti in totale autonomia e costituiscono un nuovo spazio di design della didattica, in cui il docente non riproduce semplicemente programmi prescrittivi, ma rielabora ed interpreta i saperi che ritiene essenziali attraverso attività e situazioni didattiche, utilizzando e combinando tra loro materiali, risorse e metodologie.
