Adaptive reuse
- NYA provided structural engineering for converting the historic 13-story United Artist Theater in downtown Los Angeles into a boutique hotel under the Ace Hotel brand.
- The project included adding a mezzanine for a restaurant and lounge, and creating a rooftop bar and pool area, while carefully restoring the building’s historic character.
- The hotel officially opened in early 2014, blending modern amenities with preserved architectural heritage.

- NYA provided the structural engineering for the adaptive reuse and vertical expansion of the historic 1930s Public Health Services Hospital at the Presidio of San Francisco.
- The project added 3 new stories to an existing wing, redeveloped the main 6-story hospital.
- 154 apartments and 7 townhouses, along with landscaped courtyards, habitat restoration, and walking/biking trails were also added as a part of the adaptive reuse vision.
- Pier 70 was originally owned and operated by BSW, and UIW, and used as a shipyard, where many steel ships were built for private investors and the US Navy during WWII.
- The site is currently undergoing seismic upgrades and stabilization so the existing structure can be re-used for creative office space by companies and individuals.
- Structural and seismic analysis of all buildings has been completed, and structural intervention strategies are being developed.
