Anxiety and nervousness
Being in front of real students is harder than I thought. I struggled with confidence and anxiety. My biggest weakness is my lack of confidence and fear of them noticing it,
- Lack of confidence affects my teaching.
- Fear of failure makes me nervous.
- I worry that students notice my anxiety.
.
Giving feedback
I don't know many ways to praise students when they do or say something right beyond just saying "nice!" or "good!" Also, I would like to be less direct when correcting their mistakes and avoid them to feel disappointed.
- I need varied expressions for positive feedback.
- I'd like to make students to feel proud of themselves.
Students' behavior
I think that the class development relies heavily on the way students behave. I can try to encourage them to participate but they are like 40 and, some of them are shy. I want them to have good attitudes towards activities.
- Shyness limits students involvement.
- Managing 40 students can be difficult.
Classroom management
Students were mostly attentive and, although they got distracted a few times, they obeyed when I asked them to pay attention.I used some strategies like asking them questions or asking them to repeat what was said.
- Students were attentive.
- They made it easy to manage the class.
- They behaved well.
Delivering instructions
Some students struggle when I speak only in English so I tend to translate for them, but I need to consider that the English classes can be the only interaction with the language that they currently have.
- Translating instructions helps comprehension but, full English classes are key for language growth.
- English immersion to improve their language skills.
Visual resources
As a way of adapting the class to the different types of learning, visual aids would be a great complement for explanations and enhance class dynamics.
- Visual aids will make the class more engaging.
- Have consideration for the different learning styles.
Rapport
I aim to make students feel surrounded by a positive environment where they can share their opinions and ask any question that they might have.
- Positive trusting environment.
- Students comfortable sharing opinions.
- Encourage open communication.
- Show a supportive attitude towards them.
Poor classroom acoustics
The classroom's acoustics make it hard to hear students, specially since students speak softly. In this first class, I noticed that they are shy, they are not as loud as I expected.
- Classroom's acoustics are a challenge.
- Students voices are low. Its hard to hear them.
