Le 16 avril 2025, des chercheurs ont annoncé avoir utilisé les données du télescope spatial James Webb (JWST) pour détecter un gaz appelé sulfure de diméthyle dans l'atmosphère d'une exoplanète baptisée K2-18b alias Proxima B. Cette planète orbite dans la zone habitable de sa lointaine étoile. Sur terre, le DMS est essentiellement produit par le phytoplancton microscopique. Sur d'autres planètes, les traces de ce gaz pourraient constituer ce que les scientifiques appellent une biosignature, un signe de vie.

Le 16 avril 2025, des chercheurs ont annoncé avoir utilisé les données du télescope spatial James Webb (JWST) pour détecter un gaz appelé sulfure de diméthyle dans l'atmosphère d'une exoplanète baptisée K2-18b alias Proxima B. Cette planète orbite dans la zone habitable de sa lointaine étoile. Sur terre, le DMS est essentiellement produit par le phytoplancton microscopique. Sur d'autres planètes, les traces de ce gaz pourraient constituer ce que les scientifiques appellent une biosignature, un signe de vie.
