This prize includes a composing workshop with Gavin Higgins, one of Britain's most exciting and gifted compositional talents. Gavin has been associated with the Tredegar Band for many years, and is passionate about his banding roots. Gavin will be able to meet with 3 upcoming composers to discuss his experiences,and expand on ideas whilst giving tips and tricks to enhance your compositional skills.

A Time To Rehearse

This prize includes a conducting workshop with Tredegar's Musical Director, Ian Porthouse. Ian has been conductor of Tredegar Band since 2008 and is regarded as one of the brass band movement’s leading conductors, educators, performers and teachers. Ian will be able to take your band through their paces on a selection of repertoire of your choosing, giving tips and tricks on keeping your band on top form!

A Time To Play

This prize includes the opportunity for 3 brass players of any age or ability to sit in and play with the band during a concert! The prize winners will receive an invitation to sit in with the band for one work during a concert in the 2026 calendar, and will be able to experience the thrill of being amongst the Tredegar Band!

A Time To Euph

This prize includes a 1:1 lesson with Tredegar's Principal Euphonium, Siôn Jones. Siôn is a graduate of the RWCMD in Cardiff, and has been playing solo euphonium with Tredegar since 2022. Siôn will be able to advise and coach you through a range of repertoire of your choosing, allowing you to receive informative tips to enhance your playing.

This prize includes a 1:1 lesson with the incredible Peter Moore. Peter is currently a professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and has previously held the Principal Trombone position at the London Symphony Orchestra when he was only 18 years old. Peter will be able to guide you through repertoire of your choosing, as well as give helpful tips to enhance your playing ability.

This prize includes a workshop with the incredible Martyn Brabbins. Martyn is the Chief Conductor of the Malmö Symphony Orchestra and is regarded as one of the most in demand conductors in the world. His roots begin in banding, and has been a regular adjudicator at major contests. Martyn will be able to open your eyes to new musical possibilities and inspire you and your band to achieve your next goals.

This prize includes the unique opportunity for 3 brass players of any ability to play a solo with the Tredegar Band! Prize winners will attend a Tredegar rehearsal at our iconic bandroom, have the chance to sit in with the band and perform a solo of their choosing. This opportunity allows players of any age and level to step up and shine, with the support of Tredegar's MD Ian Porthouse and the talented musicians of the band.

This prize includes a lesson with Tredegar's principal cornet, Dewi Griffiths. Dewi has been on the 'end chair' for Tredegar since 2007 and has won countless solo awards. Dewi is a peripatetic music teacher, working with young musicians across South Wales. Dewi will be able to guide you through repertoire of your choosing, giving tips and advice on achieving your playing goals.

This prize includes a percussion workshop with David & Kate Hext. These experienced musicians currently hold positions of Principal Percussion and Principal Timpanist at the Hallé Orchestra & English National Ballet Philharmonic respectively.
