How to play
The aim of these activities is for students to review and reinforce the basic rules for Past Simple and the verb forms. The activities are designed to be used either as a whole set or separately. T can decide what suits best his/her ss. The students get a lot of mixed practice of verbs in context so they could see how the verbs are used.
* The Rules
* This slide is mainly the presentation of the basic rules that T can use to review what ss learned before and to reinforce them.
* Variation 2 - T divides ss into groups and organizes a challenge - each group challenges the next team to complete a sentence. If they do it correctly, they get a point. If they don't the challeginf team gets a chance to complete it and collect the point. The group with the most points wins.
* Verb Practice
* This game checks (or teaches) ss the most common irregular verbs. T can use it as a review exercise or as a game to practice ss' knowledge before all the other exercises. There are two methods you can use this exercise - PLAY - to review all the verbs one by one, and PICK - to choose the verbs at random.
* Verbs in context - 5 texts
* This activity is in a format of 5 gapped texts which ss must complete with the correct forms of the verbs. The activity can also function as a collaboration in groups or individual practice. * Organize competitions for ss to take part in - divide ss into groups and ask them to fill in each text one by one as fast as possible and as correct as possible. Be creative - engage ss into more collaborative practice.
* Mixed verbs practice 1 & 2
* This is a mixed practice of regular and irregular verbs that ss can do in pairs or in groups or individually. There are 20 examples in the first set and 30 examples in the second set. * Variation 1 - T divides SS into groups and shows them the sentences. SS complete the sentences and collect the points. The group with the most points wins.
