Just a minute!
Try to talk for 1 minute straight about bees without repeating any words or hesitating. If you repeat any words or hesitate, then someone else should try.

Global Warming
As the world warms up, the weather becomes less predictable. Flowers may bloom at the wrong times, or there may be fewer rainy or sunny days. This can confuse bees and reduce the amount of food available to them.
Pesticides
Farmers often spray chemicals called pesticides on crops to kill pests. Sadly, these pesticides can also harm bees. Some pesticides can make it hard for bees to find their way home, while others can make them sick or even kill them.
Pollution
Air pollution can make it harder for bees to smell flowers. If bees can't find flowers easily, they won't be able to collect enough food to survive. Some air pollution is also bad for bees health and can make them ill.
Habitat Loss
As towns and cities grow, many natural spaces like meadows, fields, and hedgerows are being removed. These areas are where bees find flowers to collect nectar and pollen. Without these spaces, bees struggle to survive.
Step-by-step plan
for planting a bee friendly garden
Challenge
- Discuss a budget with family
- Go to the garden centre
- Pick 3 (or more) new plants or seeds for the garden that I know are bee friendly.
- Try to find plants like lavendar, crocus, aster
- Select where in garden to put new plants with family
- Plant seeds/plants
- Water when needed
Well done for finishing your research. That's great work! Pick one of your methods for helping bees and make a step-by-step plan of how you will achieve it.
THINK Do you need to buy anything? Do you need help from an adult? Be specific about what you are using or changing.
Parasites and illnesses
Bees can get sick just like people do. One dangerous parasite is the Varroa mite, which attaches to bees and spreads disease. These tiny pests can weaken or kill whole bee colonies. Pollution can also make bees poorly.
