+ Listen
THE MUSICAL ALPHABET
Each of these letters represents a musical note. When you play or sing these notes, you're making music!
THE MUSICAL STAFF
THE MUSICAL STAFF
Imagine a set of five lines and four spaces. This is called the musical staff. Notes live on these lines and spaces. Each line and space represents a different note.
Measures
Measures, also known as bars, are segments of time in music defined by a given number of beats, over which notes, rests, and other musical elements are placed.
Bar Lines
The beginning and end of each measure are indicated by vertical lines called bar lines. Bar lines are vertical lines that cross the staff and divide the music into measures (or bars).
