Objectives

  • Apply Python, AI, and robotics simulation tools to a real-world issue
  • Design, build, and present a working prototype or system plan
  • Collaborate to reflect on ethical, social, and technical impacts
  • Demonstrate growth in digital literacy, problem-solving, and creativity

Capstone Project

Step 1: Pick a Challenge

  • Focus on a real-world digital access or inclusion issue (e.g., broadband gaps, accessibility tools, equity in AI).
Step 2: Use Course Tools
  • Python scripts
  • Data analysis + charts
  • Robotic simulation
  • Machine learning models
  • Simulations or design mockups
Step 3: Address Ethics
  • Discuss bias, fairness, and inclusivity in your design.
  • Identify who benefits, who may be left out, and how you’ll minimize harm.
Step 4: Deliverables
  • Digital Prototype: code, simulation, or mockup.
  • Write-Up: explain the problem, your solution, and ethical considerations.

Capstone Guidelines provided in course content

Capstone Work Time (Independent or Small Groups)

  1. Finalize your project idea (if not already done).
  2. Continue building your digital prototype (code, simulation, or design).
  3. Draft/write part of your 3–4 page report.

    2. Shows application of at least one course concept/tool.
    3. Demonstrates effort and functionality.
  2. Write-Up (40 pts)
    1. Clear description of problem and context (10 pts).
    2. Explains tools and methods used (10 pts).
    3. Presents results or demonstration clearly (10 pts).
    4. Discusses ethical considerations (bias, fairness, audience) (10 pts).
  3. Clarity & Submission (20 pts)
    1. Notebook/report is organized and easy to follow.
    2. Submitted on time with the required files and screenshot.

Capstone Submission

Submit the project to the Capstone Project under module 8:

Write-Up (1-2 pages)

  1. Problem & Context: Describe the access or inclusion challenge.
  2. Methods & Tools: Explain what tools you used and why.
  3. Results / Demonstration: Show what your prototype can do.
  4. Ethical Considerations: Discuss fairness, bias, and inclusivity.

Digital Prototype

  1. Title: Final_LastName_Capstone_Project_AccessibilityAI
  2. A working notebook, simulation, or mockup file.
  3. Must use at least one course tool: Python, ML, simulation, visualization, or design.
