Society The Amazonian Kichwa people live in the Ecuadorian part of Amazonia, in the provinces of Napo and Sucumbíos, as well as along the borders of Colombia and Peru. Members from the Kotokocha community, who call themselves Napu Runa, use the term "Kichwa shimi" for their language, which translates to "Kichwa language" or "Runashimi," meaning "people's language". Another group is the Kichwa Canelos, also known as Kichwa del Pastaza or Pastaza Runa. They are primarily farmers, cultivating crops like yucca (manioc) and supplementing their diet with traditional hunting and gathering, and possess extensive knowledge of medicinal plants and fruit trees.
