introduction

Commitment for Success Module

Students will complete learning modules through Edgenuity with the support of certified teachers and facilitators.

Newton County Schools has established the Virtual Instructional Program (VIP) for students to learn in a self-paced virtual environment. Once accepted, VIP students can progress from grade to grade without physically attending a school facility.

Students who apply for the Fall Semester are committing for the entire year.

Students will have asynchronous access to Concept Coaching also in Edgenuity.

Students must re-apply each Spring to continue in the Fall.

Participation in the program is 100% self-paced.

Students will abide by all guidelines and expectations as set forth in the NCS Code of Conduct (linked below).

The Newton County Schools Student Code of Conduct can be accessed below:

Commitment for Success Module

Student success in an online setting is dependent upon many factors.

At VIP, Students must commit to the following:
  • Attendance and participation in the NCS Virtual Instructional Program for the entire 25-26 school year. (Aug 4, 2025-May 22, 2026).

Students

Maintain adequate academic progress.

At the heart of the VIP Framework lies instruction.
  • If the student fails more than one class, they will be placed on academic probation. Failure to maintain a grade point average of 70 or above during two consecutive 4.5 week grading periods, may result in program removal.
  • Make timely progress in courses and meet required deadlines.
  • Maintain communication with teachers and facilitators to discuss progress and learning goals.
  • Follow all course requirements, including notetaking, studying and participating in state and local standardized testing.
  • Follow both VIP and your zoned home school communication feeds for updates of school activities.

ACADEMICs

Commitment for Success Module

Middle and high school students will receive progress reports every 4.5 weeks, while elementary students receive them every 9 weeks.

Instructional Focus and Support

What is considered adequate progress?

If a student does not meet progress standards by the end of a 9-week period, they will be placed on academic probation for the following 9-week grading period.

Adequate academic progress requires students to achieve a grade of 70% or higher for students in grades 4-12, either during each 4.5-week grading period or as a rolling cumulative total.

Students who fail to pass more than two courses by the semester break may be considered for return to their zoned home school for the Spring Semester.
