Welcome Back, I want to welcome the Class of 2028 and the new members of the Class of 2029 to the Old Colony family. I also want to welcome our new staff members. As we embark on the new school year I challenge you, the student, to be curious and to stay curious. If you are curious, strive for knowledge, and seek to understand you will enrich yourself and your community. This summer I saw a large sculpture entitled “The Weight of Oneself.” The sculpture depicts two human figures of the same person. One stands, cradling the other and saving them from drowning, embodying the internal journey of self-exploration and acceptance. This sculpture spoke to me about resilience, self identity, and responsibility. It is a powerful reminder that much of our destiny is within us. Your journey is dynamic and is dependent upon your actions and input. We, each of us, embody agency and direction over our lives. We, the Old Colony community, are here to spark that interest but it is your curiosity that will ignite the torch of enlightenment. Stay curious, strive for knowledge and truth and I promise you, you will be rewarded. We pride ourselves on our connection with the community. Please consider getting involved as a parent, student or community member. There are so many awesome opportunities available to add to the Old Colony community. I look forward to a great school year. If you have any concerns about the school, your student, or just need information, please employ the “30 Second Rule.” Let us know within 30 seconds if there is an issue. Stay Curious. Sincerely, Mr. Linehan

Supplies We do not have a "supply list". On the first two days of school, teachers will inform their students of any materials needed for their class and will give them time to obtain them.

Summer Academies Students and teachers certainly have been busy here at OC! We hosted our first summer Math Acceleration and STEM academies this year. Rising sophomores joined Mr. Charest for a week of exploring the mathematical concepts used in engineering. Ms. Smith and Mr. Parks also welcomed some of our new grade 9 students into our STEM program. They spent the week investigating native and invasive populations across our 80 acre campus, extracting DNA, and refining some microscope skills.
Advanced Placement Students who were recommended for advanced placement coursework participated in a variety of Summer Institutes hosted by our Mass Insight partners. These workshops bridge the gap between high school level coursework and the demands of AP coursework. Students review critical subject specific skills, develop an understanding of the AP exam format, and time management and study skills required for this level of coursework. Congratulations to these students for taking on the challenge and dedicated time in the summer to prepare.
Schoolbrains Community Portal Students and families can access student information through our community portal, which will go live with 2023-2024 information on the first day of the new school year. This is where you can find updated student grades, student attendance, bus information, and report cards. Parents, please be sure to use your login credentials rather than those of your student. If you need assistance, please contact Brittany Lestage at blestage@oldcolony.info. Enjoy the remainder of summer break and we look forward to seeing our students & teachers back in a few weeks!
Career Technical Education (CTE) News
Welcome to a new school year! We are excited to begin another year full of learning, growth, and opportunities in our CTE programs. We encourage all families to stay engaged with your student’s program. Communication and collaboration are key to a successful school year and we look forward to working closely with you to support your students’ goals. Students: This is your time! Embrace challenges, take pride in your craft, and stay curious. Your dedication, creativity, and resilience will shape not only your future, but also the future of your chosen career and community. Wishing you a productive, inspiring, and rewarding school year!
COOPERATIVE EDUCATION PROGRAM: 12th-grade students will attend a Cooperative Education (Co-op)/Portfolio Assembly on Thursday, September 4th at 8AM. This assembly will provide students with information on how to participate in the program and its requirements. The presentation will be sent to families to review after the presentation. This year’s Co-op program will begin on Monday, September 29th, for those students who meet the eligibility criteria.
EXPLORATORY PROGRAM: 9th-grade students will begin their Exploratory Program on Monday, September 15th. On Thursday, August 28th at 7:45AM there will be an Exploratory Program Assembly to kick off the program and its expectations. Throughout the day, students will receive additional information about the Exploratory Program, a copy of their Exploratory Program Schedule, and a copy of the Exploratory Program Overview Handout. A copy of the Handout and Presentation will also be sent to families following the presentation. This information is also available on the school website. Just a reminder to take time to review the expectations and requirements for each CTE program with your student, included in the Exploratory Program Overview, before they attend each exploratory program session in their rotation. These expectations and requirements will have an impact on the student’s exploratory grade, which could affect the student’s ultimate CTE program assignment.
12-GRADE STUDENT PORTFOLIO: The Student Portfolio is a graduation requirement at Old Colony. During the past three years, your 12th-grade student, in cooperation with his/her CTE Shop, CTEl Related, and Academic instructors, has been gathering work projects, awards, letters of recommendation, etc., to include as part of the required materials. A complete portfolio must be assembled by the end of the second trimester, March 6, 2026. Your student’s instructors may set earlier deadlines for sections of the portfolio to assist them in meeting the portfolio requirement. It is the student’s responsibility to meet all deadlines and there will be consequences for missed deadlines. We enlist your support and cooperation in having your child meet these important deadlines. 12th-grade students will attend a Cooperative Education/Portfolio Assembly on Thursday, September 4th, at 8AM. This assembly will provide them with a review of the portfolio requirements. The presentation will be sent to families to review.
