SHAPING LIGH TO YOUR NEEDS
The CD6 is an R&D center located at the UPC Terrassa Campus, focused on the development of photonics applications.The ultimate goal is to create new knowledge through applied research programs and launch it to the market through contracts with industry, IPR licensing, or spin-off creation. The research results achieved at CD6 have led to the creation of several spin-off companies along with a early-stage technology incubation programe.

Starting Situation
PhotoniCAT is a Student Chapter created and run by PhD students who share optics and photonics as their field of study. The aim of the Student Chapter is to foster unity and cooperation among students through various activities. The group receives funding from international photonics organizations such as OPTICA and SPIE. Currently, PhotoniCAT is made up of 15 students, of whom 75% are linked to CD6 research group.
2024 activities include visiting Elementary and Secondary Schools to perform sessions with the Photonics Explorer Kits to promote scientific careers to future generations, internal workshops that foster multidisciplinary collaboration among members, and collaboration with ICONS (ICFO student chapter) to organize Student Congress on Optics and Photonics (SCOP24).

This kind on income is a powerful tool to develop long-term strategies and to reinforce the center's performace. It is noteworthy to mention that income from private companies remains stable, and also, the payment of the PECT project related to the photonics incubator, that has unusually increased the "Other sources" of income.

CD6 uses a 1800 m2 space in the UPC Terrassa Campus, hosting five research labs, two prototype rooms, a mechanics workshop and an electronics workshop. Labs: Five labs dedicated to R&D tasks focused on application development in the fields of Optical metrology, Vision, Biophotonics, Colour and multispectral imaging and optics advanced manufacturing
Prototype rooms: Spaces dedicated to final assembly, testing and validation of new instruments and sensors, prior to customer delivery. Workshops: Mechanical and electronics workshops located beside the prototype rooms, support the final integration and validation stages.

The CD6 is an R&D center located at the UPC Terrassa Campus, focused on the development of photonics applications.The ultimate goal is to create new knowledge through applied research programs and launch it to the market through contracts with industry, IPR licensing, or spin-off creation. Starting Situation
PhotoniCAT is a Student Chapter created and run by PhD students who share optics and photonics as their field of study. The aim of the Student Chapter is to foster unity and cooperation among students through various activities. The group receives funding from international photonics organizations such as OPTICA and SPIE. Currently, PhotoniCAT is made up of 15 students, of whom 75% are linked to CD6 research group.
2024 activities include visiting Elementary and Secondary Schools to perform sessions with the Photonics Explorer Kits to promote scientific careers to future generations, internal workshops that foster multidisciplinary collaboration among members, and collaboration with ICONS (ICFO student chapter) to organize Student Congress on Optics and Photonics (SCOP24).

Unrestricted funds in 2024 have helped the basic operations of the center (Administration, marketing, quality assurance, etc.). This kind on income is a powerful tool to develop long-term strategies and to reinforce the center's performace. It is noteworthy to mention that income from private companies remains stable, and also, the payment of the PECT project related to the photonics incubator, that has unusually increased the "Other sources" of income.

CD6 uses a 1800 m2 space in the UPC Terrassa Campus, hosting five research labs, two prototype rooms, a mechanics workshop and an electronics workshop. Labs: Five labs dedicated to R&D tasks focused on application development in the fields of Optical metrology, Vision, Biophotonics, Colour and multispectral imaging and optics advanced manufacturing
Prototype rooms: Spaces dedicated to final assembly, testing and validation of new instruments and sensors, prior to customer delivery. Workshops: Mechanical and electronics workshops located beside the prototype rooms, support the final integration and validation stages.
