ACCESS CARD

Service Vie Au Campus serv-vac@insa-rennes.fr 02.23.23.84.86 Open from Monday to Friday // 8 am-12 pm and 1 pm-4.30 pm, except on Wednesday afternoons.

All INSA staff and students have a contactless smart card which gives them access to the buildings.

STUDENT CARD

You need your annual student card to sit your exams. It also entitles you to discounts off campus (cinema, transport, etc.).

ACCESS TO THE HALLS OF RESIDENCE

SECURITY

Access to the halls of residence is secured. You can enter using your personal access card. To prevent intrusion by people from outside INSA, you must make sure that the door is properly closed behind you. You have a non-reproducible room key and a letterbox key. Please note that lost keys will be invoiced.

SECURITY

Should a problem arise, you can contact the INSA Rennes Security Department on 02 23 23 82 01, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In addition, security guards do their rounds daily from 6 pm to 7.30 am.

The security of INSA halls of residence is everyone's responsibility. For the well-being of all residents: > Lock your bedroom door as soon as you leave the room, even for a short time; > lock communal rooms as soon as you stop using them; > do not give or lend your keys; > make sure you lock the doors to the halls of residence behind you to prevent intruders. Don't play with the fire extinguishers or the fire safety system. This equipment must remain in perfect condition at all times. Your life and the lives of the other residents depend on it. If you set off a false alarm, you will be excluded from the residences immediately without notice.

COMMUNITY LIFE

The communal rooms are equipped with fridges and electric hotplates. Rubbish bins must be taken down daily. The communal rooms must not be used to store dry groceries, crockery or laundry. Failure to comply with hygiene instructions or repeated nuisance may result in the Student Accommodation office closing the common room for a period ranging from a few days to a few weeks.

The halls of residence, which are not only your living space but also your workplace, are communal environments. Respecting others is therefore vital. A reasonable level of noise during the day and peace and tranquillity at night are absolutely essential. If these instructions are not followed, sanctions may go as far as exclusion without notice.

HYGIENE

YOUR ROOM

All residents must take their rubbish out of their rooms and put it in the containers located at the foot of the halls of residence. As an eco-friendly gesture, selective sorting is applied everywhere on campus, and sorting bins are available in your place of residence as well as in the academic buildings! All INSA buildings, including the halls of residence, are non-smoking.

Cooking is not permitted in bedrooms. Any appliance not authorised by the house rules will be confiscated. VMC outlets must always be unobstructed and never blocked. A cleaning fee will be charged if, at the end of the stay or the academic year, the room hasn't been sufficiently cleaned. Residents are responsible for the bedding and furniture in their accommodation. An inventory of fixtures is carried out on the student's arrival and departure, and the furniture will also be checked.

THE CLEANING OF COMMUNAL AREAS

Communal areas (toilets, halls, corridors) are cleaned by the establishment's housekeeping staff. Residents are responsible for cleaning their own rooms and the communal rooms.

The mail is delivered by INSA, however parcels are not handled by the INSA mail service. Parcels must be delivered to local post offices and parcel drop-off points. To ensure that you receive your mail, please remember to put your name on your letterbox and to fill in your postal address with your first and last names and your room number.

INTERNET CONNECTION

All accommodation is connected to the computer network. This gives you free access to INSA Rennes teaching resources via the intranet (https://intranet.insa-rennes.fr/). You are responsible for your own Internet access via the service provider Quantic Télécom (www.quantic-telecom.net). Several packages are available depending on the length of your stay.

PARKING

There are car parks in front of or near each residence. Three bicycle garages are available (in the basement of the Arz, Bréhat and Glénan residences). Your room key gives you access to these garages. Please respect the spaces reserved for people with disabilities and do not park in front of or on the yellow stripes to allow emergency services access if necessary.

REPAIRS

Any material problems (plumbing, electricity, heating, etc.) must be reported directly to the Technical and Property Department (STI) via a ticket request: Intranet -> Digital services (at the top right-hand corner of the homepage) -> Support -> Helpdesk ‘Support request by ticket’ -> Technical and property. To make it easier for ITS staff to help you, please make sure your room is tidy.

LAUNDRY

Two launderettes are available: one in the basement of the Cézembre residence and one in the basement of the Glénan residence.

The Multimedia Centre

Le Multimedia Centre is freely accessible 7 days a week from 7 am to midnight; a building access card is required.

The Multimedia Centre comprises 6 rooms with around 100 self-service workstations and a videoconferencing room. The workstations are connected to the computer networks, giving access to a wide range of resources (software) and to the Internet. When they enrol, students undertake to respect the charter for the proper use of computers and networks, which is available on the intranet (Information for All / Information System / IT Charters / IT Charter for Students). This charter sets out the rules and obligations for those using the establishment's IT systems.

Measures to combat harassment and gender-based, discriminatory and sexual violence

This mechanism is aimed at INSA Rennes staff and students. It aims to respond to all situations of harassment and other sexual, discriminatory and sexist violence committed on the INSA Rennes campus or in any other context related to INSA Rennes, by a person studying, working or living at INSA Rennes, or whose victim is a person studying, working or living at INSA Rennes.

This scheme aims to: - Encourage staff and students to seek help and administrative support - Find solutions and monitor situations, - Come up with and implement an appropriate and effective prevention plan.

INSA Rennes will assign you a computer account for the full duration of your studies there. Your personal login and password are given to you when you register. This computer account will enable you to access all its digital services (Wifi, email, timetable, grades, online courses, printing, etc.). For added security, a 2nd-factor authentication has been introduced for all staff and students. By default, the personal email address you provided when you registered is used. Your smartphone can also be configured to be used for this purpose (documentation on Intranet / Information for all / Information system / Catalogue of digital services / Double authentication).

A PERSONALISED WELCOME

UPON ARRIVAL

International students can be met at Rennes station or Saint-Jacques-de-la-Lande airport on the outskirts of Rennes by one of our Welcome Officers, who will be happy to answer any questions they may have and help them get started. Contact: welcomestudents@insa-rennes.fr

It is possible to apply for grants from your home country or from specialised organisations. Opening a bank account is free of charge, but proof of accommodation and income is required. The registration period for obtaining a bank identity statement is 15 days. Cheque books and the use of cheques are free of charge. On the other hand, there is a charge of between €15 and €35 for issuing a credit card.

HOUSING BENEFIT

International students holding a residence permit are entitled to housing benefit from the French government. Applications for ALS (room) or APL (studio) are available on the CAF website (www.caf.fr). They must be completed on receipt of the residence permit application receipt issued by the prefecture or after validation of the long-stay visa. The INSA Campus Life Service then provides the accommodation certificate which completes the housing benefit application.

SOCIAL SECURITY AND INSURANCE

ACCOMODATION AND CATERING ON THE INSA CAMPUS

International students must register with the French Social Security system in order to benefit from it. This is compulsory (health insurance in France). European students must be in possession of the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). Students are strongly advised to join a complementary health insurance scheme to supplement social security benefits. Students must also take out civil liability and house insurance. > https://etudiant-etranger.ameli.fr/

All international students are entitled to accommodation and meals on campus. Rent is paid monthly. Students receive an email every month to pay online using the Paybox application. International students living in INSA halls of residence can be provided with bed linen (sheets, blankets, bolsters) on request. Bathroom linen, on the other hand, is not provided. BANK-BUDGET

You need to prove that you have a certain level of income to be able to stay in France. Proof of income is required when you renew your residence permit. The average monthly budget is €800 (www.campusfrance.org/fr). Living in Rennes is, however, cheaper than living in Paris.

COURSES IN ENGLISH

INSA Rennes offers all its international students advanced courses in French as a Foreign Language (FLE). FLE courses cover the French language and culture as well as scientific French and are suitable for levels A2 to C1.

INSA Rennes encourages and supports student societies and the initiatives that mark the academic year. There are around fifty societies on campus, including the “Amicale des étudiants” (Students’ Association), known for organising the annual Rock'n Solex music festival. Getting involved in student life is all about learning to work as part of a team, managing equipment, controlling costs and communicating with others, but it is also a source of personal fulfilment, with the right balance between work and leisure.

AEIR was founded in 1967 and has over 1,100 members. Its aim is to develop activities and organise events on campus, as well as forging links with other associations in Rennes, students from other INSAs and alumni. The association has 3 sections:

The Foyer is a meeting place for the school's engineering students; it is run entirely by AEIR members. It is also a venue for concerts, parties and shows. The K-FET is a place where you can relax, have a coffee, play table football, etc.

The association's activities are punctuated by numerous events organised by the engineering students, some of which have become major events in their own right: Rock’n Solex, Un des Sens, le Gala, INSAlan, etc.

FORUM GRAND OUEST

INSTART'UP RENNES

INSTART'UP Rennes aims to develop the entrepreneurial spirit of engineering students through coaching workshops, conferences and afterwork sessions.

SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES

Students with disabilities are given individualised support and assistance by the Disability Officer, who is also an INSA Rennes psychologist: > learning accommodations: staggering the curriculum (in consultation with teachers), organising teaching support, help with notetaking, tutoring, etc. > exam accommodations: extra time for written, practical and oral tests, technical aids, exam secretarial services, etc. > technical assistance: proposing tools to compensate for the disability To be able to make the necessary adjustments to teaching and examinations, a meeting with a doctor from the Beaulieu Student Health Service is compulsory. Appointments can be made directly at the INSA Rennes Health Centre.

AS - THE SPORTS ASSOCIATION

The AS provides engineering students with the opportunity to practise a physical activity by proposing more than thirty sports. It also organises various events, including the French Grandes Ecoles Championships and the INSA Orange Run. The sports association also runs the official INSA Rennes shop! as@insa-rennes.fr

INS'INDIA

The Ins'India association aims to support Indian orphanages and schools. Throughout the year, a team of INSA students carries out activities on campus and in the surrounding area in order to exchange views, raise awareness and raise funds for a humanitarian trip. insindia@insa-rennes.fr

A bout of the blues, sleep or stress problems, dark thoughts, etc., the INSA Rennes psychologist provides a place where students can talk about their problems, whatever difficulties they may be experiencing, and where they can find someone to listen to them and give them support. She receives students by appointment, without judgement and in complete confidentiality. She is also responsible for welcoming and supporting students with disabilities.
