What are things I should look out for when applying for internships?
Is the internship paid or unpaid? Some internships are paid and others are unpaid. Oftentimes, whether the internship is paid or not will be listed in the description of the internship. If it is not listed, it is important to enquire as to whether the internship pays a living wage.
What date does the internship application close? It may be helpful to apply before the end date in case there is an issue with you application or documents, so that you can resolve the issue before the deadline.
What years are the employers seeking? Some internships are designed for specific years or even courses. Make sure to apply for internships that suit your year and course.
Is the internship accessible? It is important that internships comply with your accessibility requirements. Meet with your Disability Officer to discuss any concerns you have about accessibility and disclosure of disability in the workplace.
What is required for the application? Some internships will require a cover letter and CV to apply. Others will request a personal statement or include an interview. There are supports offered through the Careers Service for these requirements.
