The UAE shares borders with two countries: Saudi Arabia and Oman.
The Land and Climate of the UAE
The United Arab Emirates are situated on the Arabian peninsula and border the Persian Gulf.The country has mountains in the east. There is a dry desert with many sand dunes in the centre. The land is mostly dry and empty. Even near the sea (Persian Gulf), it is dry. The UAE has a hot desert climate. In summer, the temperature is often over 40°C. Sand storms, dust storms and haze can happen.
The UAE consist of a federation of seven emirates. Abu Dhabi is the largest emirate as it accounts for 84% of the total land area of the federation. Abu Dhabi is also home to the capital city also called Abu Dhabi.
Dubai is the second biggest emirate and the economic hub of the region. Dubai is also known for its three manmade archipelagos, two were designed to look like a palm tree, and one to resemble a world map.

Adrian Smith. Its shape looks like the Hymenocallis flower
that grows in the desert. Builders used 330,000 cubic
meters of concrete to make it strong.
A Towering Feat of Engineering
Building such a big tower needed smart engineering. Thebase has 192 piles going deep into the ground. The outside is covered with shiny glass panels. They reflect the sun and make the tower look like a diamond.
A Vertical City
The Burj Khalifa is not a normal building. It is like a tall city.
Inside, there are homes, offices, a hotel, restaurants, and
a mosque. It has 163 floors where people live, work, and
have fun.
Elevator Superpowers
To go to the top, you ride very fast elevators. These elevators go up to 36 kilometres per hour (10 metres per second). It only takes one minute to get to the observation deck on the 148th floor
