We’re The F2, Billy and Jez. You might recognise us from our YouTube channel which is about football, football and football! We’re here to create the ultimate footballer. Throughout the book, we’ll explore the skills and attributes that the ultimate footballer needs to have. What makes a footballer who teammates admire, opponents fear and fans can’t stop talking about? We’ll share our experience and will talk about real footballers and teams who are playing now and who played in the past. We don’t always agree with each other, and we’re sure you’ll have your own opinions and favourites too! The book also contains drills and exercises so you can practise and perfect your own skills and learn how to play, think and win like a champion.
PASSING
Billy: You know Jez, it sounds funny to say this, but in the old days passing wasn’t actually as important in football as it is now. For a long time, English football was more about a ‘kick and rush’ style. A defender or goalkeeper would kick a long, hopeful ball up the field and the teams would pile forward to try and get to it first.

Jez: Hmmm, I’ve got to say, I’m glad those days have gone. I think it’s much more fun to watch matches between teams that believe in strong vision and precise passing. That’s what I call the beautiful game. So that’s why we had to have passing as one of the qualities of our ultimate footballer. He’s going to be a player for the modern game – and a man for the future, not the past.
Billy: Yes, how times have changed! Teams like Real Madrid and PSG are now off the charts with their passing accuracy. In the Premier League, you can’t look further than Man City. They absolutely smashed it with possession when they won the 2019 title.
