My Friend Mountain Flower

She dresses in a thousand beads Each year she plants a thousand seeds.

With skill she weaves her wicker baskets She weaves her people’s sleeping blankets.

She may not have what we call wealth But she can build her house herself.

Although she still lives with her Mom Experts can’t work out where she’s from.

She comes from a village people, They’re famous for being peaceful.

If she gets married she won’t roam Her husband must live in her home.

Some say that with the passing years Her way of life just disappears.

She’s my friend, and you can quote me, Mountain Flower is a Hopi.
