Letter of REcommendation
A letter of recommendation is a short letter written by a teacher, counselor, coach, boss, or mentor that explains who you are, how you act, and how you perform in school, activities, or work. The writer shares examples of your strengths, work ethic, responsibility, and character. It is like someone vouching for you and explaining why you would be a good choice, similar to a friend recommending a great movie, but for school or work opportunities.

Dear Selection Committee Representative:
I am writing to very strongly recommend Jordyn Smith as a recipient of your scholarship. I had the absolute privilege of being Jordyn’s high school Spanish II, III, and IV teacher, her high school National Honor Society advisor, and of staying in touch with her throughout her collegiate career. Over the past five years, I’ve watched her grow, face major adversities, and get to know what a special person she is. She is resilient, tenacious, compassionate, and a diligent academic.
Jordyn’s grades serve as a testament to her capabilities. She is bright, and hardworking. Maintaining focus on her goals, getting a job, creating and maintaining generational wealth, and helping her community – this self-reliant learner constantly pushes herself to succeed via hard work and sheer will. Ms. Jordyn is always eager to learn deeply and hold herself accountable, as evidenced by her being a part of the Honors College and becoming a research assistant in the Recreational Therapy Department. I attribute this intrinsic motivation to the fact that she truly understands how education and knowledge are able to change lives.
She is well aware of the benefits of being involved and serving others. Jordyn quickly got involved at Slippery Rock and in her community by being on the executive board of the Black Action Society, serving as their PR chair, a member of the Recreational Therapy Club, Pre-Occupational Therapy Club, QUEENS organization, and serving as a Jump Start mentor. As someone with such intense focus on building and changing her life, I am continually blown away at how much she thinks of others. Despite the personal loss she’s faced, she remains deeply empathic and caring in a way that I do not find common in most adults. When she chooses to join an organization, it must be worthwhile and truly be serving a group in need.
Ms. Jordyn is an outstanding student, and member of the community. The distinctiveness of her academic and social achievements would make her a worthy recipient of any scholarship. She’s proven herself to be an extremely successful student, and would make your organization in particular proud. It is without reservation that I recommend her as a recipient of your award.
Most Sincerely,
Rachel Smith, M. Ed. Spanish Teacher Commonwealth Chater Academy 920-867-5309
