Eaton's Catalogue
As one of the biggest companies in Canada, “Eaton’s” was a store that sold all sorts of goods from 1869 to 1999. Most customers of Eaton’s were typically those who were far away from towns and cities, so they would mail out their orders, their “wish lists”, to have their ordered items delivered to them through post.
Vehicle License Plates
In 1911, the Manitoban government decided to issue everyone a license plate for their vehicles. Beautiful Plains Museum has license plates from 1911 to 1976, except for 1944. Because of metal conservation for the war, the 1943 plates were small and in replacement of a metal plate, vehicles in 1944 used a windshield sticker.
Bathing Suits and Dresses
On the right side are an assortment of earlier bathing suits. Some were made of wool! The dresses on the left side are flapper dresses dating back to the 1920s. In the display are a variety of lace objects: gloves, veils, etc.
HUDSON BAY COMPANY BLANKET
For a Hudson Bay Company competition in 2006, this blanket was created by the Tangled Threads Quilt Guild. At the main entrance, you can support the museum by purchasing a handmade bag made by the Guild!
Money/Banknotes Display
Here, all sorts of money is shown from all around the world. Many are older money from France, Germany, and other European countries!
1896 Univeresal Cake-Maker
- This was a forerunner of the Kitchen-Aid mixers today.
- The ingredients would enter through the top, and the handle would crank in circular motions to mix it.
Hickman: Titanic Victims
Leonard Hickman came to Neepawa in 1908 to begin a life as a farmer in Eden, originally from England. In 1912, he went back to Europe to retrieve older brother Lewis, and younger brother Stanley to accept positions with the local famers in Neepawa. Unfortunately, when disaster came in a form of an iceberg and the Titanic collided into it, the three brothers became drowned victims, alongside 1500 others. The gravestone of the Hickmans is located at Riverside Cemetery but not all their bodies are there. Only Lewis Hickman’s body (which was previously thought to have been Leonard) is buried – the other two brothers may have never been recovered or been buried somewhere else and unidentified.
