People

That the Australian people will never put work above family or friends (at least most). There you start early to leave early and enjoy life later. The key word is quality of life and, within each context, the local population does everything to find it. In fact, quality of life is all about respect, social equality and trust. Perhaps that is why in Australia people do not need to be in a leadership position to earn well and be respected.

Australians are excited and reserved at the same time. They love the hustle and bustle and enjoy life. Australian Customs: 1. A lot of energy; 2.Punctuality; 3.Love of nature; 4. Confidence; 5.Acid humor.

LANGUAGE

Australian English had, and still has, aboriginal languages as one of its greatest influencers. For example, the words boomerang, kangaroo and koala are of Aboriginal origin. Much of the Australian is accent and pronunciation, which tend to shorten and even alter the ending of several words.

Australian English, a mix of traditional English, other languages and even immigration influences that over time have been adapted and transformed to form the current Australian way of speaking.

Political System

CuRRENCY

The Australian dollar is the official currency of Australia and has the symbol $ or A $ (to distinguish it from other dollars) and the code AUD. It is divisible into 100 cents and is issued by the Reserve Bank of Australia.

The Australian Constitution of 1901 established a federal system of government. Under this system, powers are distributed between a national government (the Commonwealth) and the six States (The Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory have self-government arrangements). The Constitution defines the boundaries of law-making powers between the Commonwealth and the States/Territories.

Flag

The Australian national flag features a large seven-pointed star, a five-star tale, the Southern Cross and a small United Kingdom flag. The seven-pointed star is known as the Federation Star, as each end represents one of the six states and territories in the country.

Sport has a very important place in the lives of Australians. Especially collective sports

  • Australian football ( footy ) : This sport mixes 2 sports : rugby and football. 2 teams compete on an oval field, the goal is to score the most goal between 2 posts.

  • Netball : It’s a basketball spin-off between two teams of seven players. It’s the main women’s collective sport in the country. There are also mixed competitions
  • Cricket : This is one of the most followed and practiced activities. Teams representing each Australian state compete in competition. Sometimes the matches are very long and can last several days

If you press the names of 3 of these sports, you will find an explanatory video

D. Some Australian traditions

Australia is a country with many traditions---

The Australian people are heirs of the aborigines and thus perpetuate the traditions of their ancestors. They learn traditional songs and dances. Australians pay tribute to their heritage.

Indeed this country is based on colonialism. Australia is now a multicultural country

4. The history of Australia and its people

Australia has an ancien past, refers to the Aboriginal community that lived in Australia and their descent. Australia is an old contry with its own culture and traditions. Today Australia society is mixed with people of different origins, customs.

Unfortunately to get there the country went through a dark period. Indeed, Australia is a country based on colonialism, it is a former English colony. That is why this country has track record of mistreating of aborigenes by white settlers.

4. The history of Australia and its people

For example we can talk about the "Stolen Generation"

Until the 1970s a law was applied in Australia

Any Aboriginal child who seemed to have withe ancesters could be snatched from their families in order to "assimilate them into the Australian society" On top of that, among thus mixed children there were two categories :

light-skinned colours

Adopted by an European family

darker-skinned colours

sent to missionary camps

4. The history of Australia and its people

For example we can talk about the "Stolen Generation"

Here is a video testimonial ( interview )

4. The history of Australia and its people

This is an awfull practise based on origins and physical appearence ( a form of racism )

So we can understand why today the Australians created festivities like the ones that were mentioned earlier. They thus keep alive the memory of these events and apologise.

Even though the situation has improved considerably, there are still some conflicts between these communities. Some people remain closed in their minds. Nothing is perfect

That is why events like "Harmony Day" must continue to exist
