Shortcuts can be used to access any webpage with a custom voice command. You can create as many custom commands as you want using Shortcuts in the Teacher Toolkit.You could say "Open my agenda" and your Shortcut would open a link to your daily agenda. You could say "Show me the 2nd period assignments" and your Shortcut could open your LMS assignments page.

For example: If you want to create a custom voice request that points to a birthday song on YouTube, you can create up to three voice requests by typing one in each field such as, "Happy Birthday" "Let's Celebrate" "Birthday Song" Then, each time you press and hold the Push-to-Talk button, say one of the above three requests to open the link you pasted into the URL field. Click Save to finish.

Student Sessions are student facing interactions that drive discussion, assess learning and social-emotional wellbeing, and transcribe teacher directions onto a connected student device. To launch a session from the Teacher Toolkit, click on the "Sessions" tile, then click on the "Start session" button. You can also use the the follow commands: "Start a session.""Start a student session.""Launch a session." A join code will be displayed. Students can navigate to student.merlyn.org to enter the code and join the session.

Within an active session, use the Add Activity + in the bottom left corner to start a new interaction. You can also use the following voice commands to begin a new activity: "Start a brainstorm board activity about..."-This is a sticky note style interaction that allows students to post comments and questions on a given topic. "Start a mood meter"-This will open an SEL check in to give you insight into the emotional status of your class "Start a pulse check activity about..."-This will create a quick formative assesment using a sliding scale to measure the current level of class understanding on a topic.

To begin a transcription, hold down the Chat button on the remote. You will see a notification from Merlyn that transcription mode is active. Hold the push to talk button, and speak your instructions into the remote. The words will be transcribed into the active session. You also have the ability to translate the instructions into another language. On the student view, they will also have the option to translate the instructions. Currently, the only supported language is Spanish, but more languages are on the way. To end transcription, hold down the Chat button again on the remote.

When you click on the "Breaktime" tab from the Teacher Toolkit, you will see two playlists: Movement PlaylistMindfulness Playlist Each playlist has been pre-programmed with Youtube links that encourage students to move or relax their bodies, depending on the social, emotional, or physical needs of the students. You can edit or delete up to ten links in either of these playlists, or simply leave them as they are.

To use the movement and mindfulness activities in Breaktime. Simply say, "Let's take a break..." and four Breaktime options will appear in the overlay. Use the D-Pad on the remote to select Let's move, or Let's Practice Mindfulness, or ask for each by name. Say, "Let's move." or "Let's practice mindfulness."

To generate an on-topic discussion question, say: "Let's have a discussion about ...(a specific topic)...." For example, you could say: "Let's have a discussion about the major literary themes found in The Great Gatsby." This will open a webpage that will first ask you to choose an appropriate grade level for the discussion question.

Then, Merlyn will automatically generate topical questions that you can use to encourage your students to discuss related topics. If you want a new question, use the AirMouse to hover and click on "Regenerate." You can also use these discussion questions for other purposes such as writing prompts, formative assessment, or exit tickets.

Create a reminder by pressing and holding the push-to-talk button and saying, "Remind me to..." For example, you could set up a recurring reminder to take attendance every day at the same time by saying, "Remind me to take attendance every day at 8:05 am." A reminder will then pop up on your main display every day at 8:05. If you want to see all of the reminders you have created, you can click on the reminder tile found at portal.merlyn.org, or press and hold the push-to-talk button and say, "Show my reminders."
