Idea 3
Visual content is a cross-cutting, universal language, like music. We are able to understand images from millions of years ago, even from other cultures.
- It matches with your audience...
- And makes them part of the message.

What You’ll Need
Recycled Materials:
- 2–3 empty soda cans (washed and dried)
- Bottle caps or buttons (for eyes or joints)
- Old wires, straws, or skewers (for arms/legs/antennae)
- Small boxes, pen springs, or screws (for decoration)
Tools & Supplies:
- Hot glue gun or strong glue
- Scissors or tin snips (adult supervision!)
- Screwdriver or sharp nail (to poke holes)
- Paint or markers (optional, for style)
- Safety gloves (for handling sharp can edges)
Sketch a simple idea: Will it have a can for a head? Legs or wheels? Antennae? Think WALL-E, R2-D2, or a soda-powered Bender from Futurama.
Design Your Robot
Use 1 can as the body. Use a 2nd can for the head (cut off the top or bottom). If using a 3rd can, cut it into arms or legs. Be careful with sharp edges—use tape or gloves if needed.
Prepare Your Cans
Assemble the Body
- Use hot glue to attach the head can to the body can.
- Punch holes in the sides for arms (or glue if easier).
- Insert wire, straws, or cut can strips for arms and legs.
- Add bottle caps or buttons for eyes, screws or pen parts for antennae.
Decorate
- Use paint or markers to give your robot a face, chest panel, buttons, or a name tag.
- You can also glue on random bits like springs, washers, or small circuit parts for extra flair.
Making a Simple Motorized Version
(Optional)
If you want it to move, you’ll need:
- A small DC motor (from old toys or electronics)
- AA battery + holder
- Switch (optional)
- Wires & tape
Basic Steps:
- Attach the motor to the bottom or side of the can (with glue or tape).
- Connect wires from the motor to the battery.
- Create an eccentric wheel using a bottle cap with an off-center hole. As it spins, it makes the robot wobble!
- Attach the bottle cap to the motor shaft.
- Tape everything inside or behind the robot.
- It won’t be remote-controlled, but it’ll buzz around like a happy soda bot!
