Gathering Ideas: Vehicle Text Recap

We are going to be writing an environmental change narrative describing one of the the following natural environments being changed into a city:
  • the school field
  • your local park or playground
  • your local woodland area

Gathering Ideas: Vehicle Text Recap

Let's recap on the Vehicle Text illustrations and discuss how it might feel for a character to see a city like this being built around their home.

How would you feel if this was built over your school field, park or local wood? The creature from the text saved a sapling to keep part of their natural environment. What might your character keep hold of to save?

Drama Opportunity: Hot Seating

In your groups - look at the City Environment pictures again.

One child: Act as your chosen character and imagine that your natural environment has changed to a dark city. The others: Act as interviewers questioning the child in the hot seat.

Guide Questions:
  • What has happened to your environment?
  • How are you feeling about the changes that have happened?
  • How can you describe the environment now?
  • What is the atmosphere of the place like, now it is a city?
  • What do you wish you could say?
  • What have you saved from your natural environment, and what might you do with it next?
Let's add some words and phrases to the flipchart.
