What is a

start

What Is a Deepfake?

A deepfake is a video, photo, or voice that looks and sounds real but it’s actually made by a computer using Artificial Intelligence (AI). It's like a super-smart trick! The word deepfake comes from:Deep learning (a type of AI that learns from lots of data)and Fake (because it's not real!)

Next

How Does It Work?

Imagine if a computer watched thousands of videos of someone’s face or voice. Then it could learn:
  • how they move their mouth
  • how they talk
  • how their face looks when they smile or frown
Then the computer can copy that person and make it look like they’re saying or doing something even if they never did!

How Are Deepfakes Made?

Imagine if a computer saw thousands of pictures and videos of a person talking, smiling, blinking, and moving.Just like how you learn what someone looks and sounds like by spending time with them, the computer learns too but really, REALLY fast.

Next

The computer can make it look like someone: Sang a song they never sang, said something silly or mean they never said or danced like a robot (even if they can’t dance!)It's kind of like high-tech puppetry but using someone's real face and voice instead of strings!

Can you tell which one is real?

Next

This is a deepfake image because it shows two versions of the same person, but one of them has been digitally altered using AI to look like them even though that version isn’t real.

Next

Here’s how you can tell it’s a deepfake:

1. Same Person, Different FacesBoth sides wear the same suit, background, and lighting but the face on the right has been changed using AI to mimic the original. It looks almost like the real person… but not quite. 2. AI ImitationA deepfake uses AI to copy facial expressions, voice, and style by learning from real photos or videos. Then it creates a fake version that looks believable, even though that person never posed or said anything in that moment. 3. It's Designed to Trick the ViewerThis type of image can be used to fool people into thinking someone said or did something they never actually did which is why it's important to learn how to spot the difference between real and fake.
