Word Selection
- Words will be randomly selected by software (contestants will not see the words on screen).
- Preliminary/Semifinal/Final rounds: 120 words previously sent to the schools.
- Final: If all 120 previously provided words have been used and participants are still competing, the judges will use 30 additional new words. These words will not be shared with participants beforehand, but they will be selected from the suggested English curriculum

Contest Structure, Groups, and Elimination
- The contest will have three stages: Preliminary Round, Semifinal, and Final.
- Participants will be divided into groups within each category. (Participants from the same school will not be placed in the same group.)
- Each group will compete until the needed number of participants is fulfilled to advance to the semifinal.
- 3 contestants from the semifinals will advance to the finals to select first, second, and third place.
Spelling Procedure
- The participant must: Pronounce the word → Spell it letter by letter → Pronounce it again.
- Letters should not be repeated unless necessary. For double letters, participants should say "double (letter)" (e.g., "double o") or simply repeat the letter ("o o").
Contest Rules
- If a participant begins spelling, they may pause, but must continue from the last letter they spelled.
- If a contestant receives help from the audience or sees the word displayed, a new word will be assigned.
- Judges have full authority and may remove anyone disrupting the normal progress of the event
Categories
There are three categories, each school may register up to two (2) participants per category.Category A: 6th and 7th grade Category B: 8th and 9th grade Category C: 10th and 11th grade
Types of Tasks
- The judge says the word → the participant spells it.
- The judge spells the word → the participant pronounces it.*
- Any participant who mispronounces or misspells a word will be eliminated
Timing and Rounds
- Participants will have 30 seconds to spell/pronounce after the judge finishes speaking.
- Time may be reduced if, after several rounds, no participants are eliminated.
- The judge may repeat the word once.
- Full rounds will be conducted to ensure all participants compete.
